initiation requirements @ clemson?
ill be 24 and transferring there in '06 for my bachelors (junior and senior year).....curious what the initiation requirements are, ie. concerning age, year in school, etc.
Do I sound eligible? peace CJ |
I can't comment on Clemson. I just wanted to let you know that I was initiated into ZTA at 28. Granted I go to a "commuter school" named Old Dominion in Virginia. But I don't know of age requirements for sororities.
Every sorority is different, as is schools. I just want you to know that it is possible to "older" and get initiated. :D |

Check with the Greek Life office there to make sure your GPA meets the minimum requirements. Please DO A SEARCH on GC because others have gone through recruitment there already, so you can see how exciting or draining it can be there. Each campus is different, each chapter is different. Things people might tell you now might not be applicable next year when you go through rush. |
question: are you male or female? I can't tell from your name
And initiation requirements aren't necessarily something ot be concerned about, you have to have a bid and go through the pledge process |

But it'd help to know if you'll be going through fraternity or sorority recruitment. |

Sorry for the mix up.....Im a guy.

Although you are older than most guys who rush at Clemson, it is possible to join a fraternity as a junior. It probably won't be as easy, but as long as you keep an open mind and just let the guys get to know you, I'm sure you will do fine!

good luck to you, guy.

What KDLady81 said. And here are some additional general thoughts.
While I didn't attend Clemson, from my experience and understanding of many chapters across the county, your age should not be as big of an issue as that you will be rushing as a junior. Now while that may not the norm, it's not unusual for a junior to be offered a bid. Especially if he knows members in the chapter and or if a chapter doesn't have any quota or total concerns. (i.e. a more formal rush on campus and can only take a set number of pledges.) Since you are transferring in, you may not know many CU Greeks. So I'd advise you to get out and meet the guys when you can. And be sure to check soon about any summer rush events etc. and sign up if that's the way it's done down there. Most chapters usually only look at inviting incoming freshman to summer events so let 'em know you are interested. And of course, if you already know any CU Greeks, talk with them and get their input. Good luck. |
Clemsonfan,
I recently graduated from Clemson and from my experience, it is not unusual for a guy to join a faternity his junior or even senior year. The fraternities had rush in the Fall AND Spring (sororities only rush in fall) and it was common to have all sorts of guys from ALL ages rush and pledge. This is totally different from sororities where it is hard to even rush as a sophmore, and rushing as a junior is almost unheard of. Good luck with everything and you will love Clemson. The guys are all wonderful and I am sure you will find your niche. My advice to you is to try to hang out with a bunch of different faternities and get to know the brothers as soon as possible. Good Luck! - Ladypi |
Re:
Well, as of last night, theres a good chance that instead of trying to move to SC and attend a community college then transfer in, i might just say screw it and attend clemson a full 4 years, that way Id be pledging as a freshman.
my biggest thing was age, but if I enroll this fall, ill be rushing 3 weeks after I turn 23, and yeah it sux Im starting college this late, but Ive a had a TON of fun these few years after high school. Age shouldnt really be a deal at BARELY 23 should it? I mean, i talked to a guy @ clemson last night who said there are tons of people starting this late. peace CJ |
Hi CJ...I'm CJ too. But I'm a girl. :D
|
one of my friends at penn state was 22 when he pledged his fraternity. he was a junior transfer from out of state. the same fraternity had a guy who had been in the navy before he went to college, so he was bit older when he pledged.
not that it will be exactly the same at clemson, but i don't think your age/year in school matters for fraternities as much as it does for sororities. |
hehe gotcha beat! My roommate's ex pledged a fraternity here when he was 26. He allready had a degree in comp. sci. and was going back for music ed. so he was technically a freshman.

It's probably not fair, but age will be an issue to some fraternities. You just have to keep an open mind and try to hang out with the guys as much as you can BEFORE rush- that way they will get to know you, and the age thing really won't matter. You will get the opportunity to meet a lot of guys if you go to their parties before rush...and EVERY fraternity has tons of parties before rush so that they can meet guys. Just go to the parties, be yourself, and everything will work out!
