Revelations and "omnium finis imminet"
 

I don't know if I'm alone here, but I've been seeing this Latin (?) phrase pop up on tv every once in a while. At first it was just the words but lately there have been some images in addition. The only one I can really remember is a baby on a raft.

Anyway, I just heard that it is advertising for the show Revelations, which is coming on NBC in April. Does anyone know anything about the show?

NBC will be premiering a new 6 hour series called “Revelations", a quasi-religious series by the writer of “The Omen” about the end of the world.

The six-hour storyline "foretells an apocalyptic, end-of-the-world scenario centering on the final conflict between God and the devil," according to the release.

Astrophysicist Richard Massey (played by Bill Pullman) and a nun, Sister Josepha Montifiore (Natascha McElhone) determine the end is near and struggle to avert it.


they have been using this "viral marketing" to start a buzz ---

"...a trip through the Internet finds the mystery phrase has made a slow, sneaky journey, appearing in chalk-scrawled graffiti around the country, popping up in sight of the TransAmerica tower in San Francisco, in Texas along a river, and other places."

Viral marketing, defined by Marketingterms.com, is a "marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message." In other words: word of mouth.

NBC hasn't plugged Revelations in a major way. But a network news release says it's the creation of producer Gavin Polone (Panic Room) and executive producer/writer David Seltzer (The Omen). The six-hour storyline "foretells an apocalyptic, end-of-the-world scenario centering on the final conflict between God and the devil," according to the release.



ETA: The network is planning preview screenings around the country March 15 and has tentatively set the premiere for April 13. A trailer on the Internet shows lots of creepy symbolism, gothic music and lightning flashes.

has anyone been watching the show? I was watching the other week and all of a sudden I see Fred Durst come on the screen. He plays a satanist that kidnaps the main characters stepson.

When I saw him, I almost fell over. Kinda scary that he is acting now. There was even an interview with his mom on the local news, cause he is from here. Anyway, I can only watch for a short time. It gets really creepy. I just cannot handle the apocolyptic stuff. I need to get past it, since it is apart of my beliefs. The show is actually more based on Catholicism rather than Christianity. I never realized just how close the two faiths actually were.

Damn it.... what the hell is it with people in the US talking about Christanity and Catholicism as being seperate or two seperate faiths... Catholocism is Christian!!! It is a denomonation of Christianity!!!

On another note: What is with the prominence of "The Rapture" or other Biblical "End of Times" in America? Is the "Christian" entertainment industry (Left Behind and such) reflecting this or exploiting this? Is it tied into or intregal part of the evangelical movement?

Ok fine. Sorry. No need to lose it. I have heard that Catholocism is a demoniation of Christianity. Isnt the Catholic Bible different from the Christian Bible? I thought it had extra books that the Christian Bible did not have. But again sorry to make you mad.

And by the way, I never actually SAID that the two were separate. I did somewhat compare the two. There are different beliefs between the two. So dont be so quick to jump on me.

Okay to compare Christanity to Catholicism is like comparing America to Ohio; one is part of the other... and carrying the analogy further to compare Baptists to Protestants is a bit like comparing Kansas to the Mid-West.

Right now back to the history lesson - the Catholic Bible is technically the Chirstian Bible... it's just that when other denonomations split from the Catholic faith in "protest" some of the things they disagreed with was the cannonical nature of some books or chapters in the Bible - so yes the King James differs slightly from the Catholic texts; but other Protestant faiths have textual differences from each other - it all depends on where they choose to draw their origin from in the history of Bibilical scholarship and translation.

Ok look. This is all unnecessary. I was trying to think of an example. My point is that I made a statement. I dont need you to school me on what I said. I know what I said. And I know what I believe.

Actually, RACooper has very valid points. Catholicism is the root of Christianity in its oldest version. Protestantism in its myriad forms constitutes the branches. Christianity is the acceptance of JC as the redeamer and the following of His teachings. The implication that Catholicism is different from and therefore not Christianity is absurd and pointedly insulting.
