Vacation Ideas?
All,
I searched but only found a thread on cruises, which I am *not* taking b/c I am afraid of the water. LOL I am beginning to think of a vacation for the May timeframe. Do any of you have any good ideas (inside the US or otherwise)? No cruises please. :) I've been to Jamaica and Puerto Rico and want to go someplace warm, whether in the US or outside the US. I also lived for a short time in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area and I'm not really trying to go there. Any ideas? Have you been? What was your experience? |
Well, if you can grab a friend, Northwest Airlines has a package where you can go to Las Vegas for 5 days, 4 nights for like $330 per person which includes air and some decent hotels on the strip. May in Lost Wages is pretty comfortable. It's not Hell hot like it usually is in June or July. The only catch is you have to book it by the end of this month. For more details, go to www.nwaworldvacations.com! Hope this helps. :)

What did you have in mind?
Tropical?--but you are afraid of water...
Desert location?--no water, but right now may be under El Nino effects... Pacific Northwest?--but lots of lakes, mountains and a tad bit of snow, however it has been rather dry... Texas?--altogether a whole new world of life... |
Thanks so much for the idea 9dstpm!
I may not go for my May vacation but that sure sounds like a deal anytime! Maybe me and a friend will go for a weekend! Thanks again, SC Quote:

Re: What did you have in mind?
Hello Soror AKA_Monet,
Yes, tropical but I am afraid of the water. :D I am not afraid of stretching out on the beach in front of it, I'm only afraid of being surrounded by it as far as my eye can see. LOL Any ideas? I love the desert too! And I love hiking. Been to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite already though. Are the Pacific Northwest locations warm (at least 85) in May? Thanks Soror! SC Quote:

:) I'm jealous.
Speaking of which, I am in your neck of the woods (So. Cal.) roughly once a month. I am always in LA when I go (or Fullerton where my uncle and aunt live). Ever up that far north? SC Quote:

Wow. I normally come out Friday evening (around midnight sometimes) but if I'm ever out during the day on Friday, we should get together. I'll let you know when I come out during the day.

Has anyone ever been to Brazil?
I mean have any *women* been to Brazil (trying to avoid all sorts of random comments from men about naked women in Brazil, which seems to be the only thing any man knows about the place. LOL ). SC |

Now, can you stand a ferry ride for 30 minutes to no more than 2 hours? Otherwise, you may want to fly there but it'll be on a prop plane... What I am talking about is going over to Victoria in British Columbia... Do it now, 'cuz slots are filling up fast due to the unseasonably warm weather... They have REAL tea times with little shops and stuff... Rather quaint... If you wanna stay in Seattle, anywhere downtown is nice, but expensive... That will get you close to the ferries and all the little Seattle activities... The touristy hot spot is Pike's Place Market... It's the farmer's market with the flowers and especially the salmon that can be shipped worldwide... But what you outta do is take the Cascadia Amtrak to Canada to Vancouver if you wanna go north... Or to Portland if you wanna go south and go to the Oregon Coast... Wanna see a site to behold... Oregon Coast... When it's not foggy and all... Places like Coos Bay... And in Washington state, the Olympics are BEAUTIFUL right now... Now, shhhhhh... Only locals know about this location outside of Seattle... But the Salish Lodge at the Snoqualmie Falls... Breathtaking... Expensive, but well worth it... And they have a really spa--like mud wraps and massages... That's my take on this place... Some cultural things to do... Like the Native American and the Asian historical museums are rather cool... But nothing jumpin' off the hizzy, foshizzy... |
Re: Re: Re: What did you have in mind?
Soror thank you for all of that great information.
I have actually been thinking of traveling to Oregon (ideas of wagons and cabins of long ago) and would love to see Washington state. I went to grad school in the Bay area so I know what a beautiful area of the country it can be and can't imagine how much more beautiful much further north of the Bay area into Oregon, Washington and Canada. Victoria, huh? I'm going to have to look into this. So many wonderful places to go I wonder why I'm not somewhere every weekend when I really think about it. Oh yeah, trying to build a savings account. LOL Thanks for the information. Now I have a whole other region in my arsenal to toss around. SC Quote:

Another friend of mine went on a 10 day tour to Rio and (somewhere else) so they would have more recent information - what do you want to know? |
What was Sao Paolo like? Were there a plethora of hotels/resorts in secluded areas (I like to stay away from staying in the cities when I vacation). Were the beaches well-maintained? What activities did you do? Did you notice whether there were opportunities to do things like horse back riding? I know that the hiking is great.
