Greek Conference
I have undertaken the initial planning for a Greek Conference for my university. This is going to be a one-day event in January that helps to bring our community back together. We've experienced some general apathy about greek life at ODU and the current leaders/chapters want to turn this around. So, I just want to know if anyone has any information regarding conferences that have happened on their campuses and who I might be able to contact for that information.

While I don't have any info on greek conferences. I would definately say that the "old heads" should be contacted. By this I mean drawing in Alumni members of each of the various frats and sorr. that exist on the campus. Their experiences and knowledge could prove invaluable.
I am from the Hampton Roads area, and I actually attended NSU for undergrad, and ODU for some grad classes. There is a rich history of greek life at ODU. I wasn't greek in undergrad, but I definately remember how active thier greek orgs were on that campus. I wish you luck in your endeavor. MN |
Earlier this year, my university hosted the Southern Greek Leadership Conference which had about 250-300 students in attendance from about 20 different universities across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
SGLC was created to fill a void after the joining of MIFCA/MAPCA into the MAGC(?) and a need was seen to continue the educational programming that would no longer be provided by the combined organization. The conference is several years old and each year has grown in success. In the past we have had presidents of NPC/NIC groups speak, as well as awareness speakers such as TJ and Joel. I admire your efforts. It seems you have your work cut out for you! As for resources, email me and I can put you in contact with the chair and coordinator of this year's conference. His name is Terence Parker, a brother of Beta Sigma Phi, Inc. and is the Greek Life Coordinator for Southwest Texas State University. He is a phenom! We were lucky enough to have him serve my university as Greek Advisor before he left to SWT. He was even runner-up to my fratenity's Greek System Advisor of the Year Award a few years back. Honestly, I cant sing the praises of Terence highly enough. But email me and I'll give you his email address and I am sure He will help you out in any way he can. Hope this helps!
