IFC Events on Your Campus
On my campus our interfraternity council doesn't do a whole lot. The only thing IFC really does is host a softball tournament between the fraternities every semester and schedules rush week. What do IFCs on other campuses do?

If like My Alma Mater, darn little.:( Well, actually nothing, it is left up to each Fraternity. OKAY, so be it!
LX Z, PSU, Kansas does a Western Week. That was something that We did to combat SX so to speak and their Derby Days. This year, the Zeta is planning on having a Watermelon Bust one day during the week along with a Poker Tourney and other things. Last year, We had a Sea Food Cook out for Alums to come back to for the weekend. It was great.:D Why wait for IFC to do something when you can PR the heck out of LXA doing something instead? Volley Ball, Dart, Horse Shoe, Pool tournies for example to get interation with other Fraternitys? We do a yearly Hot-Tub-A-Thon with a Sorority for Charity when the weather is cold so the steam comes off of the tub for PR relations. Ergo, both get names in lime light!!!! |
IFC
I know that it probably makes more sense having LXA put on an event than trying to get IFC to do it. However, on my campus, our greek community isn't as strong as it should be. TKEs were put on probation last year and people form HQ of Delta Chi pulled their charter and are now suspended for 2 years. I feel that it is important for IFC to make the greek community stronger so that it can exist and thrive. Alot of colleges have greeks banned from their campus and I feel lucky that UWW has a greek community. If one fraternity looks bad, it makes all greeks look bad.

Skits, chariot races, pie-eating contests, etc? Don't you have Greek Week? |
I came in 2nd in the Arby's eating contest my senior year...and I was the ONLY person not "chemically altered", if you catch my drift...anyway, Greek Week can be a lotta fun.

In practice almost all go to Pledge Pub (though lately that has been an issue with Sororities); Billards Tournament... died off about 3 years ago; Talent Show... circling the drain (only 3 of the 24 houses participated or showed); Pub Night - used to be a great night... but the traditional inclusion of drinking games has pretty much killed it (every year sees less attendance and houses); the Toga Party - used to be a great night with great attendance... but again declining Greek participation and increased GDIs showing led to problems and community complaints that have again pretty much killed it... finally the Boat Cruise - the year I was an AM was the last attempt at one - an attempt that failed at the dock due to lack of numbers (a dozen people only). |
