After School Specials

Hey ya'll:

Remember those After School Specials that used to come on once a month on CBS and ABC where they tackled social issues starring the big teen stars of the day? I picked up a DVD of those at Wally World tonight!

What were some of your favorite episodes? Mine were:

the one where the boy started robbing 7-11 stores and got arrested and instead of going to juvy hall, he ended up going to adult prison

the one that showed how Students Against Drunk Driving got started

the one about the boy who got his summer girlfriend pregnant and fought to stop her from giving the baby up for adoption

IMO, "School House Rock" was the greatest educational advancement of the 20th century. :D

"Conjunction, junction, what's your function..."

"I'm Just a bill, yes I'm only a bill, but I made it far as Capitol Hill"

"Elbow Room, Elbow Room, gotsta gotsta get me some elbow room..."

whew, now that was some book-learnin' for ya...:p

Hey!
Sorry for crashing, but I was just talking about after school specials the other day! I teach middle school health and they would be great to use in my classroom. Did they all come in a set? Did they have videos instead of DVDS? (believe it or not, my school does not even have DVD players) I am going to run by Walmart later this week and see if I can get it. Thanks for the heads up!

My fave was the one where Mary from Little House on the Prairie's sister fell out of the tree house and died and Mary told their mean next door neighbor off when she said it was God's will.

They always had book tie-ins with the school book club (oh how I miss the school book club and those little flyers - it was the semi-nerd version of crack) and even though I loathed Kristy McNichol because she was dating Scott Baio and I was not, I would watch her in an After School Special.*

*I was going to abbreviate this till I realized what it would say. :D

I loved After School Specials. I learned everything that I needed to know from those shows. I think that one of the best episodes is called "One Too Many" starring Michelle Pfeiffer about drunk driving.

0I wonder if the DVD set is inclusive of the specials that would air right after the cartoons on Saturday mornings. I remember the seven wishes of Joanna Peabody and Miss Switch is a witch.

Anybody old enough to remember "Angel Dusted," the one where Helen Hunt wigs out on PCP and jumps out a window, thinking she can fly? :p
