Beating the pledging Dead Horse???
I can recall days when on any given campus you'd see 10 red or blue or gold laced blk boots cutting corners, marching in step shaven heads and all singing a songs of pride. Grit mean faces, dark blu jeans, white tanks and a hell of a heart under them hoodies moving toward a goal. Was this all that bad?? I mean every Greek and gdI when they saw a line even if you didn't know the pledges and knew they could'nt respond to you you'd say "be strong". It was like everybody knew you was on and respected what you were tryin to do. Was this all that bad?? They'd greek the brothers or sisters at the cafe, probate at the rec room and do their death march across the campus in full view of the entire campus population cheering them on was this all that bad?? I don't mean to rehash the old pledging question and but honestly are these things, I'm TALKING ABOVE GROUND all that bad??? Any greeks can apply to this one!!!

Are you sure you're not romanticizing the whole thing, just a little bit?
I'm not saying above ground pledging was all good OR all bad -- but it's just not a fact of life anymore and we as NPHC Greeks have other ways to shine. |
The problem was the under ground that went along with the above ground.
The blue jeans and white shirts meant you were dressed for the underground. The greetings in the cafeteria were humiliating. The probate show (a REAL probate show) was terrifying because if you messed it up your probate period was going to be even worse. And we won't even talk about the death march. |

Some people just take it out of control meaning they would try to justify their actions by saying stuff like "Man, I went through a lot to get in" and 9 times out of ten, they cried the whole time. For example, this one "underground brother" got mad because our DP kept him away from us, mind you, this cat got his but kicked for nothing, he's not on the books meaning, no credential, just the fact that he pledged underground. Those are the worse one, in my opinion. And then you have the ones that don't know how to pledge, all they know is to beat a$$, and not teach history. Hell, half the time, they know nothing. Just my opinion.
