iastategal's news

I know its been awhile since I have last posted, but wanted to provide an update.

When I last posted, I had just sent emails to 3 sorority HQs and was anxiously waiting for the next step. The 3 sororities I chose were ones that appealed to me from a philanthropy point of view, had mission statements on their websites I could relate to, and had alum groups in my area. I’ll use European cities to refer to each organization, London, Paris, and Rome.

London and Paris both responded w/in days of my original emails. London sent a nice note saying they would put me in touch w/ the local alumna club soon. Paris responded w/ a nice email, sending me much data on the organization and asking me to send in some information so they could get the process started and put me in contact w/ the local group. Rome responded w/ an automatic reply saying it may take a few weeks to get a response to me.

At the time, I was incredibly busy at work, and was preparing to go on vacation for a week, so I decided to delay sending in any paperwork to Paris until I got back from vacation, and would check in again w/ London and Rome once I got back. The night before I left for my vacation, I got a nice email from Rome, asking me for some more information so they could line me up w/ one of the local alum groups. When I got back, I relooked at the emails I had received to date, and decided to put London and Paris on wait and see, and decided to actively pursue Rome.

I exchanged several friendly emails w/ the rep from HQ, who put me in touch w/ the local alum group, and it has been a whirlwind from there. The President of the local alum group contacted me almost as soon as she got my name from HQ to start inviting me to events. Within a short period of time I was invited to 3 different events, 2 w/ the local alum group and the college chapter they support, and 1 w/ just alums. Due to my work schedule, I was only able to make it to the 2 w/the collegiate chapter, and both times I was just amazed at the warmth and friendliness of the ladies, and they made me feel very welcome. I continued to exchange emails w/ the president of the alum group, and I was invited to their Holiday potluck get together. I met many more alums than I had met previously, and felt so at home spending time w/ them, and I really felt this was the place for me. As it was right before the holidays, I emailed my thank you to the alum group president, and hoped for additional invites to events in the New Year. Well, several weeks went by, and I hadn’t heard anything from Rome, and was beginning to wonder if Rome had decided I didn’t “fit”. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I got an email in mid January asking me to fill out the paperwork for HQ as the alum group was ready to sponsor me to be their sister!!!! :D :D

I sent the paperwork in to the alum group President, and she was forwarding all of the paperwork to HQ and the president of the alum group was hoping we would hear in time to have me initiated w/ the spring class of the collegiate chapter the alum group supports The president of the alum group has insisted the alum group pay for my “plain badge” as a gift form the older Rome members to the new Rome member. I am truly overwhelmed by this! :vhappy: :vhappy:
Well, today in my mail, I received a welcome packet from HQ with a badge order form and some other instructions. I won’t post which organization it is until I get an initiation date (oh, I hope it is soon!), but I am so excited I am almost home!!!! :D :D :D :D
