Looking for a good late March theme...
Hey, this is my first post. I'm social chair for the University of NE-Omaha Lambda Chis. I'm throwing a party on March 26th, but my entire fraternity (me included) is having a tough time choosing a theme. We have a lot of criteria to meet for this and that's why this sucks. First, our Mardi Gras party was huge and awesome, but we spent all of our money on it...so we don't have much money, but we need to keep that momentum up until our co-party later this year with another fraternity on campus. Second, we've done a lot of the regular themes and are looking for something new and cool this time. Third, we have to be weather-conscious, because it will more than likely be kinda cold and rainy here in Nebraska. Fourth, due to the combined rules of our nationals, our school, and UNO's IFC, we can have no kegs or hard alcohol at parties (beer in a can is fine). Kinda sucky, but we need to choose something pretty soon. Any suggestions?

Graffiti party...just have to pay for black lights and hi-liters
|
We had a graffiti themed marraige party last fall, and we didn't even do the whole blacklight thing. Everyone wore a white t-shirt (or wife beater, or whatever...) and brought a marker... that may be even better if you're tight on funds.
Either way... it'll be fun!! It's great to read what you (and everyone else) wrote the next day... good luck!! |
We have Theme Thursdays: most Thursdays, we have a theme party
some have been... Dress as your favorite Brother (wildly successful) Lumberjack ("plaid shirts and skirts") Those were the two that were successful anyway--the others were all just normal parties where a couple dressed up We didn't 'do' anything in particular--but it did bring in a larger-than-normal crowd |
hahaha, I'd love to do a "Dress as your favorite sister" party. I bet people would have a field day with me...they call me the "Spandex Crusader."
maybe a "grocery store" party...outfits must be bought from a grocery store/made from grocery store items. |
I forgot about this one:
BYOT: Bring your own theme Everyone just dresses up as whatever they want to dress up as, but no one gets in without a costume. There's no planning or cost on your part that i can think of, and as long as everyone does it than it can be pretty fun. |
Yeah, I'd love to do a graffiti party, but the Sig-Eps just did one last month. I'd feel like I was copying. Plus, they're the guys we're doing a party with later this year. Oh man, the BYOT party sounds great, though. But we also have a huge Halloween party every year. I don't know. How do I sell this to make it seem different?

March 27th is the day before Easter so maybe you can work Easter into the theme. An Easter Egg party where everyone dress up in over the top sickening pastels. Or maybe have a Hop* with guys as Jackrabbits and the girls as Bunnies - Playboy and otherwise.
Or perhaps a combination of the two where the guys are eggs and the girls are bunnies. Or visa versa. A tad racer Easter theme might be a Baskets & Bonnets. Gals come wearing tacky homemade bonnets and the guys, well... they bring their baskets. *A hop is an informal dance where popular music is played. |
Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes: Pretty much everyone dresses "preppy". Guys in Khakis and polos and girls usally wear skirts and polos.
There's also the Tie mixer. Guys all bring a tie and alcohol of there choice. The ties get put in a box and when the girls get there, they pick a tie and they are tied to the guy that the tie belongs to until all the alcohol the guy brought is gone. The $5 prom is always cool. Pretty much everyone just goes to Good Will and finds the ugliest dress or suit to wear. There's always the Pajama party, 80's theme, or Marraige/Divorce mixer. |
You could do tarts and vicars, like in Bridget Jones.

It night not be the best idea to throw a party the night before Easter.
If you must, maybe you can have a spring break theme. |
Oh, my god. Didn't even know that was Easter weekend. Our Spring Break is the week before, so I pushed this back a week because a lot of us are going to be out of town on road trips and stuff until that Sunday before school starts again. Wow...new problem.

LizzieLizzard03, you seem to be pretty new to GC. It's generally not a good idea to go around advertising things that are considered risk management issues and against your sorority's alcohol policies (i.e. having a mixer where the boys are bringing their own alcohol... mixers are required to be at 3rd party vendors). I'm not saying people can't have fun or people can't drink, but this is just a terrible idea. Forcing people to drink? I would've hated this... being that I barely drink. And an entire bottle between 2 people? Bad news all around. You have have fun. You can have alcohol. You can have fun with alcohol. But for god's sake, do it safely! |
