american university..houses?

hey everyone!

i am going to be in d.c. for the summer and someone told me that a good housing option was to live in a different chapter of your sorority's house... i know chi-o does not have a chapter at gw, but do you all know if the sororities at american university have houses? i figure that if they do, chi-o probably has a house too...

also, i am probably correct in assuming that i wouldn't be able to live in another chapter's house at gw, right?

thanks so much!

I do not believe they have houses at American Univ. I could be wrong, but that's my recollection.

Would that even be possible. Our house closes over the summer so house corp can make improvements and updates for the fall. This is the case for all of the chapters at my school. Sisters who want to stay in the area over the summer must find an off-campus apartment for summer lease. Is this not the case elsewhere?

We try to fill our house in the summer whenever possible. We like to fill it with sisters, but if that's not possible, we will allow any female otterbein student to live there.

With my chapter we kept the house open year-round. I'm pretty sure it will be like that with our new house... although I'm not sure that is the case with the other sororities on campus.

AU doesn't have chapter houses (they have office suites maybe?) but what you could do is see if any of your sisters live off campus and need a summer sublet.

ETA: I don't know if George Mason or University of Maryland College Park have chapters of your org, but they are both in the close DC suburbs.

George Mason has a chapter of Chi Omega but they don't have Greek Housing (well they didn't when I was there)

AU does have housing for students who are in town for th summer doing interships

I interned this summer at NASA, right next to the University of Alabama - Huntsville. Just like us, they don't have houses, but I contacted the KD chapter saying I needed somewhere to stay and did any sisters have room for me. Luckily, one of the sisters got married the weekend I moved down, so I got her old room, living with two other KDs. It was so much fun, and definitely helps having sisters there to show you around and take you out while you're away from home. I'd definitely recommend just e-mailing the chapter to ask if they could help you out.

@ Iowa the fraternity houses for the most part stay open during the summer, as for the sororities, i'm pretty sure most close, though mine does stay open.

They do have dorm floors/suites.

I agree with Senusret though, it would probably be a good idea to get in touch with the chapter and see if anyone has off campus housing that they need to sublet.

The Univeristy of Maryland house should have room, i know other chapters there rent out rooms during the summer. Its close to a metro station and if you'll have a car with you its right on the out skirts of DC.

jhujenn 02-15-2005 04:29 PM

They don't have a Chi Omega chapter though.

Mooch279 02-15-2005 04:39 PM

I'm sorry i thought they did. My mistake.
