Where do You meet LXAs at where You dont expect?
 

I had a Young man come into My Shop today trying to sell something for a Fund Raiser today, 2-11-05.

"Hi, I am selling an item for a fund raiser". Oh, what kind? "Well for My Fraternity". What Fraternity I ask?

Well, I am really nervous so I told Him not to worry.

What Fraternity, "Ah Lambda Chi Alpha". Really, and I throw the grip on Him. No Response. "Oh, I am New". Ah a New Associate I ask.:) As Jono says, Deer In The Head lights look.

I tell him, I am a LXA from PSU and LX Z.:)

His name is Mike and is going to school at SE Mo. in Cape Giraudeax , or Delta Phi.

The first experience was some years ago when some of the UMKC (KCMO ) Chapter came in and I checked their IDs at My Then Spirit Shop, and noticed it and questioned them about it!

Funny looks when I whipped My ID out!:D

While I have had many Fraterity Members in over the Years, it always tickles me when I meet a Brother or a Possible New Brother.

Any other experiences?

I've actually met quite a few LXA's around New England just walking in the street wearing letters.

Since I don't really wear the letters anymore since I graduated, I'm the one that always goes up and introduces himself.

I've met LXA's from the subway to the movie theater. Movie theaters seem to be most common, so far I've met four different brothers at four different theatres. Guess we like movies?!

I always wear my letters in airports and when travelling in hopes of bumping into a random brother :)

On a plane
 

I was flying from Grand Forks to Denver and a brother sitting next to me recognized the letters on my ring. Had a great time until the flight atendants cut us off between Souix Falls and Denver!

I've ran into a brother from chapter in North Dakota (I think) at Shedd Aquarium in chicago. The Alpha from Memphis in suburbs of chicago. A month ago I met a brother from Michigan Tech ('76) at a local drug store... LXA's are everywhere!

i have meet a few brothers from around the country at different places:

The last one i was in the University Commons running our rush table and this older guy came up and started talking to me about our house and other things here and Whitewater and low and behold in was a brother from Canada, I forget the chapter now.

Another time i was on the island of kauai and i was walking around in letters and a brother from Gettisburg was there also.

Then i meet about 6 or 7 brothers at Country Thunder USA in Twin Lakes.

I've got the #1 place you meet LXA's where you don't expect...here.

I never though there was a place with so many different LXA's posting on an active message board.

In November when I was in New York I met a brother in Times Square from the now long defunt Rutgers chapter. He saw the LCA letters on my windbreaker and introduced himself to me and his family. The whole time I was in New York I thought I would meet some brothers, being a big city and all, but it wasn't until my last day that I did.

My Two Most Unusual Meetings
 

First one was in the Snack Bar at McKee Barracks, an Army base in Crailsheim, Germany; I was wearing letters, a Brother from Denver came up to me; he was just passing through on his way to another base.

Driving North on the Maine Turnpike, a car pulled up beside me and started beeping; the driver pulled out his Lambda Charge, waved and kept on going; he must have seen my license plate bracket.

Remembered when coming back from BN, FIT F D, got on a Delta flight in Cinncinati and one of the Cabin Attendents saw My Letters and told Me Her Brother was a LXA, cant remember from where tho!

One of My Guys, LX Z worked in a high rise and there were two other Brothers working there also. Saw His Tag with LXA and his Zeta #! Left notes to contact them!

I'm in Michigan and my plate is "IN ZAX"...I chose that only because some one has already taken "ZAX"

i think that i have met the most brothers at amusement parks...Have not met any at Dollywood yet in Pigeon Forge TN but have met some at Six Flags ATL.

My first experience in discovering bros outside of the typical spots (on campus) came when I was an undergrad, circa 1975. I went to Lake Geneva, WI for a day w/my folks, my sister and a family friend. As usual, I was wearing a letter shirt.

When we approached the dock where they house the tour boats, I was greeted by another 'Chop who was disembarking from HIS tour w/his parents. He was from Western Illinois, a chapter I visited when we had a conclave there a year earlier.

I still wear letters around town, especially when going to some sporting event because they tend to attract attention. Also, I believe LCA's like to take the El (elevated trains) down to Cub games, because I seem to meet somebody almost every time I go to Clark & Addison.

At one Cub game in 2003, Illinois State's current alumni president was selected as ISU's Alumni Volunteer of the Year. His reward was the honor of throwing the first pitch from the mound prior to the game. Since I'm the BOAA's historian, I got to go down to the field and take his photo for the newsletter.

While standing on the field w/my back to the box seats, I heard somebody say, "Lambda Chi? Hell, I'M a Lambda Chi, too!". Turns out he was a Kansas State alum. You never know where we'll show up, eh?

As a sidebar comment, it's sad that some of our younger members are dissuaded from wearing Greek letter apparel because it targets them. I've heard that many Greek Life advisors tell their chapters to avoid having lettered shirts because they'll get into trouble w/the cops. It's automatically assumed in some college towns that fraternity=trouble. Sounds kinda like racial profiling to me...
