I'm doing it right now except my reasoning for it isn't because of boredom or that I hate my job. I'm searching because I'm leaving Orlando for Atlanta.

I interview for other companies on my lunch breaks. And I continue my job search.

My company knows I'm not happy here but they need someone at the front desk.

I've done this several times in my life. I believe as long as it doesn't interrupt the job that you're currently in, then sometimes it needs to be done!

I currently am, but it's difficult b/c I don't want them to know because they will start talking $*** if I don't find anything else. I also want to move to Atlanta, though... I'm thinking about just quitting and finding a temp job down there, since I'd probably make more as a secretary. :-P

I'm just starting this. I think I'm just ready to move on from what I do, I'm starting to get unhappy there. Although, at the same time, I'm nervous about the search. I think that that is because I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for, though.

What else would you do, quit your job and then look? Just be smart about it.

Don't look at ads or do your resume or cover letter at work.

If you get an interview and take time off of work for it, don't show up that day in your suit (unless you have to wear a suit every day in your current office anyway). It'll definitely raise eyebrows.

Don't let the potential employer contact your current employer.

If things are looking promising with a new job, don't tell anyone in your office that you're most likely leaving, just in case things don't work out.

Be smart, yo.

True...the main point is to be smart about it. Don't do anything that will leave you out on the street.

It's definitely not easy, but don't be blatant. Don't talk about it loudly, don't ask questions like "So, say I was leaving your company. Would you be a reference for me?"

I'm going through it right now; it definitely adds another stress to the day-to-day work situation, but if you're careful you should be fine.

In a way i'm thankfully that my firm isn't going to be hiring any new attorneys. I've spent hours talking to my boss about job opportunities elsewhere and who I should contact, and I've put the word out among the other attorneys that i'm looking for a job for once I pass the bar.

I couldn't imagine trying to keep it quiet, especially when you're in a small market and a lot of people know each other.

But definitely agree that bottom line is to be smart about it!

Definitely be discreet. Don't advertise to your current employer that you're looking. You may want to (or have to) ask a coworker or two for a reference... be careful when choosing whom to approach, and approach them privately.

If you post your resume online, you can list your current employer as "confidential" and/or block specific companies from searching your resume, depending on the website.

As others have said, keep your job search activities out of your workplace and outside your work hours.

Otherwise, you may show up to work one day only to find T-Bone from Security ready to escort you from the building.

A little tip just in case you DO search at work: Internet Options, DELETE HISTORY. :-) Also, if you use ask.com than you need to delete your searches. Just a tip. :-)

I agree with the suit thing... I went to an interview and then came in to pick up my paycheck, thinking noone would see me, and of course was greeted with, "You had an interview, didn't you." Oh, well.

This is useless.

If you open a picture on your hard drive, that is forever physically a mark on your hard drive. You can erase the file and format your computer, and it can still be pulled. Every time you format a hard drive you are creating marks on it, so if you do it something along the lines of 100 times it's very difficult to ever find that info again unless the person doing the searching is a very well connected intelligence agency.

Also, most of the traffic that comes in and out of your work is logged on the network server for the administrator to see.

I guess I'm trying to say that the history thing should be set to zero so it's not blatant, but if you're worried about your work finding out, they never look that way to begin with.

I might mention that I share a computer with my 2 bosses. So if you type in "www" it may just pop up "careerbuilder.com" :-)

I'm doing because I have been lucky and worked for my dad's CPA firm the past two years. I just recently graduated in Graphic Design and his company is very easy about letting me travel to Houston, Dallas, Orlando and New Orleans(the four places I want to go). I've been looking for about 2months, and its hard. I don't make much money righ now, but I'm thankful that they are very willing to let me take off at any opportunity of an interview.

I've never quit a job without having another one lined up.
