Clothes for informal recruitment
 

Okay, I swear I searched for the threads about "What to Wear" and I couldn't find any, so I'm making a new thread.
My transfer went through, and I'm now at UMASS. Informal recruitment starts in 2 weeks, and I'm sucking it up and making myself go to the events. (It's not punishment, but one of my new year's resolutions was to go through recruitment regardless of the results, and I've been on the verge of backing out a few times).
It's ridiculously cold up here, but I'm wondering what I should wear for different days. One of the sororities is holding "Winter Wonderland" day 1, house tours day 2, skits day 3, and then I suppose bid night on the last day.
When and when aren't jeans and a nice top appropriate? What are suggestions for different days?

I rushed through formal recruitment so I never had the dilemma you're having because we got "suggestions" for outfits each day. But as a sister, I noticed what the girls who came through informal recruitment wore last spring. I'd definitely say no jeans. For the first day, I'd go with black pants and a nice shirt or sweater (you said it's cold- you can always wear a heavy jacket and take it off when you get there). Most of the girls who came through our informal rush wore black pants or other dressy pants and a few even wore a lowkey dress on the last night. It's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. The sisters may not take you seriously if you show up in something you might wear to class. And you can always look at how the sisters are other PNMs are dressing to get an accurate idea of what to wear. Good luck!

I would have to agree on this.

I spoke with my friend Ashley, and her advice was to dress nicely the first night and see how everyone else looks, and to to gauge my style from there. Which means I have to go out and get a nice pair of pants/skirt :) I love Target for times like these. I realize that should I get a bid, I will have ample time to wear jeans later on :)

Yeah that's definitely true. When I was pledging and first initiated, I tried to look nice all the time around my sisters. Now I go to meetings right after the gym and tanning when I'm a sweaty mess and don't think twice about it.

I am currently going through informal rush at a large southern school with a very competative greek system.

I would say that what you wear depends on what they invite you to do. If they're asking you over to watch a tv show or something then I would wear something casual - not jeans, though. If they are inviting you over for dinner or to go out somewhere, I would dress up more. If you know anyone in the sororities I would ask them what they are wearing.

I agree with that last sentence. I also wanted to point out something that you had hinted at - Rush usually gets dressier from one night to the next.

I would think it just depends on the school. We have informal recruitment in the fall, and everyone (PNMs and sisters) wore jeans. Ours was really laid back. We gave house tours one night, played games the next night, and watched a movie the following night. The most dressed up night was the open house and that was because it was the first chance for the freshmen women to come over to our house and we wanted to make a good impression. Some of the PNMs wore khakis, but none of them were more dressed up than that for the rest of the week. I would say that dress probably depends on the atmosphere of your school and you should contact your Panhellenic VP Recruitment to find out what the atmosphere on your campus is for informal recruitment.

Help! Major scheduling problem!
The other sororities on campus have just put up flyers for informal recruitment, and the parties all seem to be happening at the same time. The first night, every house is holding a party from 6-8pm.
After that, I can break up my schedule very carefully, but it's the first night that worries me. I don't want people to think that I'm not interested because I can't get to all of them.
How am I going to work this?
