University of Maryland

I hear that rush started this weekend. Has anyone heard how it went? It may have been postponed because of the weather.

If anyone is from UMD please let me know!

hey aaby-i am an alumna member from umd-as far as i know, the first round of recruitment was on sunday, and i do not believe that it was cancalled. we only got a little bit of snow/ice here in md on saturday night and sunday it was a little bit warmer than it has been here recently. apprantly, recruitment registration numbers are up considerably this year, although i do not know an exact figure. i will be heading down to college park tonight to help out at the house during philanthropy parties, so i will upodate later. i am really excited, our house was completely redecorated over the summer and i cannot wait to see what it looks like! i heard they finally got rid of the pepto bismol pink paint!

Any word on how things are going?

Monday is bid day -- I'm excited to see how all the houses did.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks.

I have no idea how everyone did, but I do know that approx 700 girls signed up for rush this year which is WAY mare than it has been in the last 5 years. I helped out at my former house the first night of set of 10 and wow.....................we had the highest return percentage we have had in a very VERY long time-i think 65% after tours, which is DOUBLE what it has been in past years. Iota Omega has not done the greatest in recruitments past but hopefully this is the year the FR gods were smiling down on us

Thats fantastic! If you have the numbers I'd be interested to hear all the great news!!! You can PM me if you feel more comfortable with that.

well according to Iota Omega's website and the pictures that are up on the web, we have 14 fabulous new members!!!!! I have no idea what quote was-probably somewhere around 20, but the last spring new member class that was that large on bid day was mine-in spring of '99 which was 6 years ago!!!! so all in all, i would say this was a very successful recruitment. you can view the pictures (i believe alpha phi, tri delta, dg, dphie, and zta are pictured) here
just click on "photography" on the main page

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life doesn't say much - http://www.union.umd.edu/greek_life/

I was interested to see how many NPC groups are there:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Phi
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Delta Phi Epsilon
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Phi Sigma Sigma
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Kappa
Zeta Tau Alpha

The main PH page has some info but no results yet:

Random note -- I like college panhellenics with logos (seems very inclusive and pro-greek to me:

Thanks for the link ZetaGirl. It's sort of hard to tell who is a new member and who isn't in our shots, but if I count the correct women, it would appear we have between 20-25 women. But who the heck knows :)

I have a question for everyone. I'm also an UMD alumni but I went the professional sorority route instead of panhell. I noticed on some webpages that there is a 'set of 10' and a 'set of 5' nights...what are these? When we rush our women for SA we have a bid night, interview night, sisterhood night and then information nights...I haven't heard the other terms before.

Thanks!

Shelley

Ok here's how it works there:

Open house is the first night. PNM's visit all the sororities @ UMD.

On 'Set of 10 night'- the girls can return to a max of 10 sororities.

On 'Set of 5 night- they return to a max of 5.

Preference night- the girls find out who wants to pref them (I don't go to Maryland so I don't know how many pref parties girls are allowed to attend).

After pref night, the girls rank the sororities they visited for pref in order of preference (i.e. if you preffed ADPi and DG, and you feel like you are more comfortable in DG, you would rank DG first and ADPi second.

Bid Day- Girls who have been bid matched find out where their new home is.
:)

Hope I cleared it up. :)

 They have Alpha Chi Omicron instead of Omega!

Strange that they wouldn't have used the Omega symbol since the other groups on the logo have the greek symbols.

I have seen AXO as the abbreviation for Alpha Chi Omega before -- see here:

jocelyn-you have it right! On pref you can go back to 3 and at maryland, as long as you rank you maximum # of houses, you are guaranteed a bid (ie as to not penalize women who were only asked back to 1 or 2 parties)
