If you win that copy of the expositor, is there any way you could photo copy it for me? I've always wanted to read that book, but never even seen a copy of it.

Matt, if it is that old, I would doubt a copy would be forth coming.

I asked My Best Friend to get me some surgical gloves from the PD so I could Handle the TKN Pledge Manual so not to get Skin Oil on it!

Granted, these are both older than Jono and I, It sure would be tough.


But, the Dumbest Question is the one never asked!:D

Matt, thanks for the encouragement and I hope I do get it. I saw one once on an online used book store but it was like $180 or so, and at the time I didn't realize what it was. Then it was gone. Still don't know who bought it.

I'll have to wait to see what condition it's in. It might be too fragile to flatten out for scanning or photocopying without breaking the binding.

Some of the old Paedagoguses are like that and I'd like to describe the differences between the various editions, but it's impossible to hold a book partially open with two hands and type or write at the same time. What I really need is a secretary who can take dictation! :)

Trust me I know about that. In my History work I have to go to our special collections section. You have to be buzzed into the room. Your bags are taken and you're only allowed paper and a pencil, but it's worth it to read 200 year old letters. I talked to Kipp about a Lambda Chi librarian positition once. I think that IHQ could use that.

Powell's Book Store

I got real lucky a couple of years ago when I was looking through the used book section of the on-line version of Powell's Book Store. They had the Expositor listed as being available from one of their used book store affiliates. I made payment on it immediately! A short time later the seller said he had the book but couldn't find it! He said he would check back with me when he found it.... Many months went by and then the "good news" came that he had found it and was ready to send it to me! I got it for $89.00 including shipping! One of my better buys and difinately a real treasure.

re: copying fragile books
 

There is a type of scanner where you can lay the book
face-up, one side flat (the other side of the book doesn't
have to be, so you don't have to open it all the way)
and a non-touching scanner (3-4 feet) ABOVE the page
scans it in.

Works great on old, fragile books. There is one in our
library here at Gtown.
