Switching to a new school/chapter?
 

I have a questoin.

If I were to transfer to a new school, and they had a chapter of the frat im in, how does it work? Like will I be able to participate in their chapters and stuff, and do stuff with them like community service and fundraising, etc?

Or will I be like an outsider LOL

Dude really all it takes is a couple of paper work done and proof of being a member of that fraternity. And as for being accepted with the fraternity u transfer to, it might be weird at first and some will see u different, but just be you and either way remember its the same frat. and all of ya'll live by the same sacraments and morals, so they should accept you no matter what.

so what fraternity are you in and what school do u want to transfer to? just wondering...bored and can't study.

You should really check with your Executive Council (or whatever your fraternity calls your governing body). They'll have the best and accurate information.

I know all GLOs are different, but I know many NPCs have similar transferring and affiliating procedures. Almost always the transferring member has to be in good standing, and the original chapter writes a letter recommending the member for affiliation. The new chapter must then vote to accept or reject the affiliation. Sometimes there are fees to be paid before the member can join the new chapter.

Of course, that's just how we do it. Not all NPCs are the same, and I can imagine that most inter/national fraternities have more lax procedures when a members decides to transfer to another chapter.

ATO and I want to transfer to Univ. of Central Florida

I'm in Pi Beta Phi at UCF and we have Viking Week with ATO this week. They are such nice guys. I like every single one I've met so far. They're very welcoming. If you end up transfering down here, I'm sure you'll fit right in.

yea, my biggest thing is that im worried about is fitting in or not, or getting along with the guys lol

It takes more than that. The receiving chapter has to consent to the transfer of membership.

It would be a good idea to meet with brothers from UCF before school starts, in a casual atmosphere.

Not for everyone. I am a transfer brother. LXA simply requires two signatures on a form. One from the tresurer verifying the transfering brother does not owe any money to the chapter and a signature from the president verifying the transfering member is not on any disclipinary status. The rest of the paperwork is handeled at HQ.

Lambda Chi has no provision requiring or ALLOWING for a second vote on membership once someone is initiated. Even in the case of a transfer. A brother is a brother. If the fit is not right, it will be apparent to both parties.

I met my transfer chapter before I ever considered transfering and we all got along great. I'd reccomend checking them out before you up and do the paperwork.

I actually just transferred to another school with a chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau. Last spring, when I looked into transferring here, I contacted the chapter president to let her know that I would possibly be here in the fall, and to find out if there was any certain procedure to follow. I looked in the National Constitution, and we followed procedure, and I ended up being allowed to join the chapter, and was voted in as V.P. on the same night. Just be sure to let a new chapter know ahead of time that you are coming.

Its crazy just how diverse the chapters are. LIke the chapter I am part of, everyone is so differernt. I mean we have people from every race, relgion, backgrond, you name it.

But the i met some of the guys from the other chapter, and they are all like tall, athletic, white guys. Not sure if im gona fit in lol

yeah it is weird when u see how diverse your fraternity can be at other chapters around the nation. shoot, my fraternity gots an all black chapter, all chinese chapter, all hispanic, and mine is very diverse, but what you see is what you get...so i guess get tall and all that good stuff...jk it should be alright...or not..lol once again just messing with ya

I'm actually a transfer student myself. I went from the University of Calgary in Alberta, to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. (Both in Canada for those of you who dont know) It was a really easy process for myself, I took the time to contact the chapter in Halifax before I got here and asked them some questions that they were happy to answer for me. The fact that the fraternity was here helped me alot. I was able to meet people much faster, had tour guides to the school and the city. For my organization there were no forms involved or anything. I simply stopped paying my dues to one chapter and started paying it to the next. When our chapters fill out the forms for our IHQ they simply put me in their membership list and stop at my old chapter.
