AEPi comes in first of all fraternities with a 3.428.

The Omegas rounded out the list with 1.640. :(

Bad news for the Omegas, but I'm sure they can bring up their GPA with some hard work.

how can a fraternity average 1.6? wouldn't that mean that a lot of their members are in the 1 range? thats crazy...

Its takes a lot of hard work. A chapter expends more effort maintaining a 1.6 than it does a 2.2.

About six years ago, before it was reorganized, my chapter pulled a 1.9. They were very busy doing it, and the details are not for the web.

It can take only a small percentage of members to bring down a chapter's GPA. Especially if there aren't any (enough) members with a high GPA to counter the low grades. i.e. most are middle of the road. And if the chapter is small in numbers, then only one or two members can do the damage.

in order to have a 1.6 GPA, a significant number of members had to have a < 2.0 GPA, and probably even around the 1.0 range (to counterbalance anyone with a 3.0 GPA)

at least at Pitt, if you get below a 2.0 you're placed on academic probation with the university and if you get below again you're kicked out.... how can so many brothers be that low and still be in school?

And while it's true that a few brothers can bring down grades, that 1.640 is an AVERAGE- which means that there are people that got below that!

And if the AEPi's can pull a 3.4, you really can't make an argument that the grading is rough.

Don't colleges/universities have a minimum GPA for graduation. And then various schools within universities will have the same or higher. I know when I graduated, the lowest GPA you could have and still graduate was 2.5.

Nope, it's a 2.0 for the university. And I'm quite happy that it's a 2.0. It's your education, you need an incentive to do well. You have to try pretty hard to get below a 2.0 average. Though I do realize if you're pre med, or something very science or math related your programming is harder. But if you can't pull even a smidge more than a straight C average (which is what a 2.0 is), that program probably isn't right for you.

At NJ Tech we have to keep above 2.0 in order to be on good academic standing with the university. 2.0 is not that hard to maintain at all, even for an engineering/architecture/computer science/ university.

Our IFSC requires 2.2 (which is still quite low) If your average falls below then the organization is put on poor standing and eventually if it isn't brought up- probationary status.

Sigma Psi Kappa (we're local) requires a GPA of 2.4 to remain an active member. If any sister's GPA is above but very close to 2.4 the sisters is strongly advised to attend weekly study hours to improve her grades. Anything between 2.0 and 2.4 results in sisters automatically put on academic probation with the sorority for one semester....if it's not raised then she must go inactive until she is able to pull her grades above 2.4.

Yes being part of a Greek Organization is supposed to be fun...but we're in college to get an education and graduate with a degree worth something. Connections from alumni mean nothing if you have a below average GPA. No alum is going to recomend someone that did not do well in college.

but congratulations on 3.4!! that's pretty good! Last year my sorority earned the Highest GPA award for Sororities...but I have no idea what our average was.

I just hope that this is not indicative of a Fine Organization such as the Omega Phi Psi Members around the Country.:(

Maybe not enough emphasis placed on grades and to Much Lets have fun!:(

Even if a small Chapter, how in the hell do they stay in school as students or be allowed to be a current Chapter!:eek: :(
