lambda chi symbols in movie on DVD
ok brothers, you need to check out the movie, "Going Greek" ; even tho it is about a fictional fraternity, on chapter 12 of the DVD, watch for a poster on one of the brother's doors. Pause the DVD and zoom in just a little. You can see the Cross and Crescent on the right hand side of the poster and delta pi to the bottom left. Plus in some scenes, you can see a small glimpse of their fictional coat of arms, look for two crossed swords.
Someone involved with this movie has to be a brother.... I might write the director of the movie in care of the production company and ask if anyone who was involved in the making of this film was a brother of our fraternity. In ZAX, Zeta Phi 708 |

A Reason to Believe
Greetings!
In September, 1995 a movie entitled "A Reason to Believe" was released by Castle Hill Productions. Its cast included, mostly, TV actors: Allison Smith, Jay Underwood, Danny Quinn, Keith Coogan, and Kim Walker. The movie was filmed at the University of Cincinnati and at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. There are a number of Lambda Chi connections: the Director/Writer Douglas Tirola is the son of a ZU-Zeta Lambda Chi, Vince Tirola; Vince and his wife are listed as Producers of the film; our Chapter House was used as a staging and rest area for the cast and crew; and some key scenes were filmed in the House. We had just put $25,000 in our kitchen and, because it was so new and clean, they decided to film an important confrontational scene in that area. Another important scene was filmed in what was portrayed as our Chapter Room. In reality, it was our main stairwell! It was used because we had a number of great composite pictures hanging there on a real nice brick wall. It was funny seeing how they "jammed" a bunch of actors together and filmed it so that it does pass as a "Chapter Room." If you ever see the movie take a good look over the right shoulder of the President as he speaks and you will notice a very clear Lambda Chi Alpha Coat of Arms! They covered Lambda Chi Alpha with another, made-up, fraternity name but not the COA! And, if you have "X-Ray" vision you will be able to see me! Unfortunatly, the guy couldn't move and my composite picture was hidden behind his right shoulder! Oh, well! It is not a great movie! But it did attempt to take on the important issues of "date rape" and racism. It is fun for ZU-Zeta Brothers to watch because of the use of the Chapter House in the movie. The movie is available on Amazon.com for under $20.00 for a used copy. Yours in ZAX, Mike Raymond, ZU-Z |
i will definitely look for that movie...

Bro Mike,
I HAD seen the LXA COA on the composite in Reason to Believe. Its a GREAT movie. Had seen it as an undergrad about 3AM on HBO or something and took the idea to the Greek Life office at UT-San Antonio (where I was an undergrad) and convinced them to add a copy to the leadership library (where chapters can check it out for free) then the next year they had the producers (or something along those lines) come to campus for a showing during a mandatory greek-week event. It was great with 90%+ participation. Its an absolutely wonderful movie that is without a doubt the most accurate display of the inner workings of a chapter when facing a crisis. THe scene you describe (on the stairs) could have been taken from any chapter meeting I ever attended as an undergraduate when membership status was debated. A great film that dosent trash greeks and dosent make us out to be saints either. its VERY realisitc. Every chapter should see it. The best FRED session. Its entertaining and you wouldnt realize youre in a FRED session. I had forgotten all about it until this thread. I think the colony needs a copy. Am gonna have to work on that for them. |
