Poker Players?

Hey, anyone here a poker player? Do you play online, and if so where do you play?

Rudey 01-28-2005 05:35 PM

No. We play Magic the Gathering around these parts.

I play at PartyPoker but I prefer the weekly house game.

The bar I work in has a poker league for points and the highest point count at the end of the month gets a prize(x-box, computer, surround sound syst. etc) but I kinda wanted to play online. A friend of mine won $5000.00 in an online game last week. I tried to download poker stars but my computer is being mean

Serious poker (ie. Casino) about once a month...

Poker for fun or with the guys; about once a week - a number of pubs around campus host a World Poker Tour night; no cash, but you do advance in standings towards participating in the actual tourney in Vegas.

Not online...

but in my dad's extended family, I can not remember a single family reunion that there wasn't at least one poker table going (usually 2 or 3). I learned to play poker by the time I was 10. I actually thought when I was 8 that it was a rule that there must be poker at Family reunions :).

Last time I went to visit my parents, there we all were sitting around my parents kitchen table teaching the kids the finer point of five card draw :).

My 12 year old son is pretty darned good at this point!

I've heard good things about Paradise Poker, too.

I use ultimate bet, but I prefer to play in person.

I arranged for a poker tournament here to help out with rush. Went over great had like over 80 people signed up....then the other frats found out about it and decided that we were 'cheating' at rush or something and made a huge deal over it.

Went to a meeting today and said that even though we set it up, it's considered 'professional entertainment' and that if we went through with it the cops would be called and we would all get some kind of charges against us.

That's the attitude of frats on this campus. If someone else comes up with something original, whine and cry until it's taken away.

I play full tilt poker. It's good.

Are you kidding? FT is terrible.

I play way too much poker, if you have specific questions you can PM me - I play at UB and pokerroom, and on party a little.

UltimateBet has the best interface, but the games are tough (even as low as $1/$2).

Party has the most players (and therefore the highest number of terrible players), the games are quite weak, but the interface is abhorrent, the tournaments have monster juice, the rake is high (especially w/ the 'bad beat' tables), etc etc

Pokerroom is nice only b/c it has a java interface so i can play on the road

Paradise and Absolute have soft games, but goofy interfaces and terrible bonuses.

Anyway I play around 2000 hands/wk online, plus we play live (mostly prairie meadows in des moines) 1-3 times per week (4-15 hours). Some of that is '2am wasted' so it doesn't really count, but there's a group of about 5 of us who play pretty seriously. Love it, kids, the 'poker boom' won't last forever, so rip that cash down while you can.

I'm a total geek, so if you need site or book recommendations hit me up.

My New Year's Resolution was to not open-limp in late position - I'm serious.

I play on pokerstars and pokerroom but only play $ games. ever since I finally got my full-time job I have not played all the much.

i've been playing online poker for about 2 years now

i live right by a casino, but have yet to play in real life, but i want too very much so

AOPIHottie 01-29-2005 12:33 AM

Well, I prefer to play live too, but the game at work is not for $$, and the home games we play are usually low buy-ins($5-$20) so you don't really win that much, cause there is only like 8 of us playing. I want to try an online game, but I am scared to!!!!

mightymike 01-29-2005 12:46 AM

I play regularly online at Absolute Poker and Party Poker.

AOPIHottie 01-29-2005 02:47 PM

Has anyone read the poker magazine Bluff? I just got it(well, BF actually got it) and it has a bunch of sites. So far the first online game I have registered for is a fantasy game-You pick your players and get points depending on there places in various tourneys, and the winner of the fantasy league gets a seat at the WSOP '05. Not that I even expect to get close, but it feels like I can get some sorta practice(and gives me a reason to watch!)
