Ladies, I need a hug...
The past couple of days at work have been awful. Both of my managers say that I am not "enthusiastic" enough, and my latest evaluation was bad so I've been put on probation because I don't sell enough store credit cards. This is really bad! I only took this job because I needed something to tide me over until I went back to school, which means I'll only be there until May, but how am I going to be able to make it through the next few months? When I think about going back in there tomorrow I get really, really anxious and depressed. :(

That really sucks if your job depends on the number of credit cards you talk people into....that would be like my job depending on the number of kids I passed. I really don't know what to tell you or say, because I have never worked retail. Is there someone you could talk to in your store? Do you have a sales record that could show how hard you have worked, despite the credit cards? I am sure something will work out for you! You are in my thougts... |

There's not really much I can do...a lot of associates leave because of the whole credit thing. It's par for the course, so I'm stuck with it until May. I'm just trying to figure out a way to make it bearable, especially now that my manager and the assistant store manager are breathing down my neck. |
Lets face it.
Retail is a bit of a dick sucking experience. hmm . . . which I guess isn't to bad from some people's point of view . . . so let me qualify that and say that retail is like a dick sucking experience from the viewpoint of a heterosexual male that is being forced to perform it. I can't understand how they equate a lack of enthusism with the non-sale of store credit cards. If they have a rule requiring you to ask customers, and you ask . . well you have done your job. It sounds like you have bad managers. Long before you get a bad review they should have issued certain requirements and worked with you in order to improve your sales skills. Assuming they are lacking. What are these managers like? Standard retail kiddie types? Or old burnouts who have nothing else in life to look forward to? Sounds like the movie Office Space where instead of TPS reports you are getting chewed out over customers not wanting yet another credit card at 16.9 percent APR. My only message for your managers is . . fuck you very much. |

Hang in there!! I survived 5 years of retail while I was getting my PhD, so I know how you feel. A lot of retail managers can be serious hard-asses! The store is their life, and they can't understand someone who has a dream outside of the retail arena. Just remember that it is a TEMPORARY job and soon you will be back in school.
If you ever need a word of support from someone who's been there, PM me at any time. In the Flame, Vickie |
Awww...that really sucks.
I hope it gets better really soon! If not, you know you can always rant to us! |
