Penn State Sorority Charged with Alcohol Offense

A short item in the Penn State student paper says that a sorority is facing misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to minors.

A couple of excerpts from the story:

"Sorority to face charges March 17

Pi Beta Phi sorority waived its preliminary hearing yesterday in Centre County Courthouse and will now stand trial.

. . . . According to court documents, there was a formal function on Nov. 4, 2004 on the 800 block of Stratford Drive . . . .
Officers identified a minor being treated for alcohol overdose by the Alpha Community Ambulance Company and discovered several cases of beer, hard alcohol and mixed alcohol behind the bar according to court documents."

Not to make light of the stories in the link, which are all serious, but taken by themselves, the headlines are pretty Interesting:

Student injured after dorm balcony fall
(Alcohol may have been involved)

Woman fined for abusing boyfriend
(With an ax and a hammer)

Man bites State College policeman
(Neither bit a dog)

From what I can tell, it seems like they were having a formal out at Knights of Columbus. They often rent out space for formal sorority functions.

I'll be interested to see what if any action the university takes because President Graham Spanier's daughter is a Pi Phi.
