Midwest Diva, I am not sure, but I do believe that one of my founders did lend some assistance (I am not sure to what extent). I am sure that the lovely ladies of SGRho will correct me if I am wrong.
As for the brother/sister relationship, the Nupe that told you that we have no sister org was right. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.is it's own entity. But we do have a common bond. We were both started at historically white schools in Indiana. APhiA being the only other org that was started at a white school. Now it does depend on where you go as to how much "luv" Nupes and SGRhos share. There are some campuses where the Q's and AKAs are tight, and some where the Nupes and AKAs are tight, some where the Sigmas and SGRhos are tight, it just depends. Some brothers are very insistent that we need no one, and that we shouldn't associate ourselves with one particular org. That's on them. Though we number over a hundred thousand, we probably have that same number of opinions about how to deal with this subject. I will end with this. I have mad luv for the ladies of SGRho. When I was in Undergrad one of my best friends was an SGRho. She pledged up in NYC and tranfered down to my school. Now on my campus we didn't have any SGRhos so she actually started the chapter back up. I traveled with her once or twice to parties at other schools, once to a school in NC, and once to VA Tech (Damn them girls at VA Tech was fine, but I digress), and I got a chance to meet these sistas and they were just as nice and down to earth, and showed me mad luv, even though at the time I wasn't greek. So I have been luving SGRhos for a long time, over a decade, and will kontinue to luv them till the day I die. If another brother doesn't choose to feel the same way, then that's on him. MN- I am a an Alumnus of VA Tech! (I crossed there in FA97) What years did you come to visit?

No we don't have an "official" brother organization. No, I am not sure if a member of Kappa Alpha Psi assisted with the origin of my beloved sorority (I'd have to research this) but I can say this -- given the history of the United States at the time especially in a place like Indiana at a white university -- it is likely that we should share some kind of "bond". If that is what you want to call it.
I attended a small, predominantly white college in Ohio for 2 years in the early 80's and came back home to D.C. to finish my last 2 years because I couldn't take the difference. I wasn't used to going to all white stores with all white cashiers who didn't want to touch my hand while giving me change. This was the 80's so I can't imagine what our founders were going through in the Mid-West during that particular time!!!! That is the only reason why I think we could share any kind of "Indiana Love" thang. Let's just think about what our founders must have endured, brothers!!! As for Professor, I don't like your comment here http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif I was a proud Alpha Sweetheart back in the day, and like they told me then -- it's for life -- so I still claim it!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by BlueReign (edited September 23, 2000).] [This message has been edited by BlueReign (edited September 23, 2000).] |
We all know the deal on the brother sister thing. Alpha's, although not constitutionally bound, share and acknowledge a relationship with the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha. From reading the post I gathered the relationship between the Kappas and Sigma Gamma Rhos may not be as respected as APhiA and AKA.
