As much as I hope it will happen, I highly doubt it will. Jackson would want total control and Thomas will not give it to him. I have a feeling Larry Brown will be making an appearance as the next Knicks coach.

I have so few crushes, and Phil Jackson is one of them!!

New York IS much closer than LA, though...!

I cannot see any sort of situation where Thomas hires Jackson. As you said, this is a situation where Phil would want the type of control that Thomas would not give him.

For as many reasons as Phil would coach the Knicks (history with the team, stated interest in coaching in New York), the fact that Thomas runs the show is enough of a reason for him NOT to coach there.

I see the Knicks hiring someone like Larry Brown, rather than Phil Jackson. They are both great coaches, but Jackson is the one who wins championships, and I don't see the Knicks doing this. Maybe its because of the way that idiot from Utah ran the organization some years back, but I'm a bit pessimistic about the way that CableVision runs things.

Don't forget the contract that make great sense (sarcasm). I'm talking about Alan Houston's contract. What were they thinking?

They were overpaying when everyone else was overpaying. That's not an excuse, it's just the way it is. That's what brought on cap that exists today (although last summer proved that overpayment is not a thing of the past: Adonal Foyle?).

I think Thomas is going to have to give up a certain amount of control (or at least a certain amount of the perception that he has total control) to get a decent coach. Brown is out after this season in Detroit, but does he really walk into the situation in NY? It's going to interesting to see who takes the job.

(I like the Knicks as well, so it's not that I'm hoping that they don't get their top choices. I'm just saying that it's going to be interesting what concessions, if any, Thomas makes)

The best thing the Knicks could do is just play out the season and don't expect anything. This season is pretty much over, with Houston being injured every month. They have 40 mill in expiring contracts after next season and hopefully they can get a good lottery pick. I'll say it, it's time to cut losses and start building for the future. The days of the early 90s Knicks are over. Better to establish a team that can compete for a long time, rather than what they alwas do, try to buy championships.

Here in Detroit the rumor is Larry Brown. The Piston's head office told reporters that Larry Brown has not discussed it with anybody but has also not said anything to dispel the rumor.

Wow, I didn't realize they had that much in expiring contracts. In Crawford and Sweetney they have somewhat of a base of young players (although they overpaid for Crawford).

They really need to have a solid draft this year though - their draft history is checkered at best.

Agree with this totally.

Saunders is one heck of a coach who was in an awful situation. I'm not sure anyone can succeed with Spree and Sam Cassell acting the way they are. McHale will probably be next, unless he can save the season and the Wolves salary cap number for next year.
