Loving Cup

Can we discuss the Loving Cup here or do we need to take off-line and private?

I don't see any reason why we cannot discuss it in this forum. Please PM me if you think it were secret, we can put it on the forum from there!

I never got the impression that our Loving Cup was secret or private. On the contrary, I believe it's symbolism and use would be beneficial and a positive influence for others to experience.

Yeah, that's definitely an open ceremony (we do ours in front of parents at our initiation banquet).

I'll just say that I don't like the loving cup b/c invariably someone at the beginning of the line has a cold and passes it on to a third of the chapter...and I always end up being in that part of the chapter...

Proper Form and Hands

I am just trying to figure out if there is a codified version of the ceremony. And by that I mean an explanation written down in official documents that is outside the printed ritual but inside the Fraternity - for the purpose of instruction.

Example: The cup MUST be held by three hands at all times. It must be held with the right hand. It must be passed to the left.

In our ceremonies, if you don't want to drink from it, you are instructed to simply kiss it. That way you avoid passing your cold along. Also, we always have one our alumni explain it to our new pledges while we're standing in the circle... it's much more meaninful when he talks about it. he = Kirk Little

What a great idea, I'm going to have to suggest this to my chapter.
