helluva wrestling match....

a kick to the head necessary>?

DeltAlum 01-24-2005 05:20 PM

IF this was just a for fun wrestling match, and not a serious fight because of the alleged situation with the younger sister -- or even if it is the latter, one of the things that I worry about is TV's penchant for showing fist fights, martial arts, etc and the loser with only some cuts and bruises in the next scent.

Fights are dangerous in real life.

Apparently the college (Baldwin-Wallace) has suspended the young man who allegedly caused the skull fracture.

I read that article at my Job. That's a shame. :(

Damn.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!?

I don't get it. You can do stupid things on a daily basis. I for one did not know the difference between using liquid and powder detergent in a dish washer. I slept through half of a final. I did all sorts of dumb things like that. But I never, ever, ever thought it OK to kick a brother...or to kick anyone...in the head.

Channel 5 news is wrong

The source of the information is wrong. Brent was not kicked in the head. He was pushed and hit the back of his head on the door frame. The Cleveland media has done a piss-poor job reporting on this one. They even got one of the names wrong; his name is ADAM Gaydos. Obviously Channel 5 needs to get a better source on it. If they did some actual investigating they would have checked the police report to get their facts right. I mean they reported on the story when it first happened and they got it wrong and you would think that they would correct themselves when they reported on Brent's death.

Not to nitpick, but it's Baldwin-Wallace College, not University.

exlurker 02-02-2005 04:18 PM

The Cleveland Plain Dealer story on Jones' death gives Gaydos' first name as Adam, and refers to Jones' hitting his head -- this Feb. 2 report is more consistent with what leuthaholic's post mentioned.

An excerpt from the [I]Plain Dealer[/] article:

B-W student, 21, dies 2 weeks after dorm scuffle
Fraternity brother is facing charges

Damian Guevara
Plain Dealer Reporter
Berea

--A Baldwin-Wallace College senior who suffered a severe head injury while wrestling with a fraternity brother in a dorm hallway died early Tuesday.

Brent Jones, 21, of Mount Vernon, had been at MetroHealth Medical Center with a fractured skull and swollen brain after his head hit a door frame Jan. 16.

The other student, 20-year-old Adam Gaydos, a junior from Mentor, was charged with two counts of felonious assault. Berea police detective Charles Gute said he expects Jones' death to result in new charges.

Gaydos, a junior and member of the college's swim team, was suspended by the school. He is free on a $2,500 bond. . . .

Some witnesses told police that the two appeared to be horse-playing as they grappled in a Heritage Hall corridor after a night of drinking and socializing, according to a police report. But police believe the confrontation may have occurred after Jones' fiancée caught her younger cousin making out with Gaydos in a dorm room, Gute said. . . ."

Yeah I didn't catch the Baldwin Wallace University thing. Wow, you would think they could at least get the name of the school right considering it's 13 miles south of Downtown Cleveland and the Cleveland Browns' practice facility is right down the street. The media has no respect for the situation. We had a service at our chapel tonight and they were there. Those close to Brent didn't really appreciate them being there. The feeling around campus is positive. The entire Greek community showed up to pay their respects tonight. Everyone has been really supportive of our fraternity too. It's good to see people come together like this during tragic times. Keep Adam, his family, and Brent's family in your prayers.

My Prayers and Condolences to the families and friends of Brent Jones. :(
