Tri-Delt at CU in trouble
Heard on the radio that a pledge sleepover recently involved alcohol consumption and that several members have been expelled from the sorority, and that an investigation is ongoing.
Just what CU needs right now...another greek crisis. |
There is a thread on that here:
http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...threadid=60038 I've talked to a member of that chapter who told me that the pledges were provided with -- but not forced to drink -- alcohol by a clueless new member educator at their pledge retreat. Even so, it's indicative of a serious lack of foresight. I imagine that, at the very least, the girls who committed the "prank" plus the new member educator will be kicked out and the sorority will be on social probation for a semester or more. |
Is this going back to the Old Thing?
Is CU going to once again do a Knee Jerk Reaction once again? Damn, what is wrong with These Mile High Dimwits.??? Give a Free Reign and then go in with the Growling Dogs! Just what the hell is their agenda?? Yes, I do change my mind about many things. If a few do, then why blame the whole?:( |
Sororities enforce standards
I don't doubt many members will be disciplined by the general office and alumni, and a letter will be sent to every other chapter, the ladies have never had a let the boys be boys attitude.

ETA: I don't think it would be mentioned in any orgs' magazine...definitely not the organization's proudest moment, you wouldn't really want to comemorate it! |
Tri Delta would be more likely to put it in the magazine, I think, than send out a letter. After the Bucknell chapter was closed for risk management violations, there was a note in the magazine talking about why HQ chose to shut down a chapter for RM issues for the first time ever. Sometimes it's better to face the rumors head on rather than let them circulate without acknowledging them. I don't know how other sororities' publications are run, but the Trident isn't just a place to commemorate the good parts of sorority life; most issues include at least one or two discussions on the things that need fixing as well. (I remember recent articles that have touched on the collegiate culture of binge drinking and the alcohol.edu program that Tri Delta is starting, the lack of diversity in sororities, the changing face of sorority rush to a more year-round approach, etc.)

Otter, I think I know what you're referring to, and that was (thank heaven) a very unique situation...for something like that, yes, I'm sure the chapters would be contacted personally.
I think if you DON'T mention that so and so chapter has closed in your magazine - and you don't have to go into excruciating detail - it's like you're keeping members out of the loop. They have a right to know, especially if they have daughters or siblings who will be attending schools where those chapters are/were. |
33girl,
I definitely agree with you on that one...I can't remember if there was a mention in our magazine or not. I think it is definitely appropriate to notify all alumnae if a chapter has closed...I guess it just depends on the situation. ;) |
I've rarely heard of a group sending out a special letter regarding chapters that are in risk management violation to other chapters. Maybe area alumnae who work with the group, etc. Magazine? A whole other ball of wax, although Tri Delta's magazine is a subscription basis now I think.
|
Or it could possibly be included in a slightly more internal publication that is regularly sent to chapters and advisors (meaning fewer people outside Tri-Delta would see it but all chapter officers and advisors hopefully would.)

I do think Tri Delta would be more apt to put it in the magazine then else where. I really can't see them sending a notice to everyone each time a chapter goes on probation. I do think the alumnae chapter(s) involved would see a letter and the chapter certianly will (along with more visits from more representatives). |
