Open Letter to New GCer's II

Lets continue here. The other one was locked for some reason. ;)

_Opi_ 01-18-2005 06:43 PM

I'm sure for a good reason.

Dionysus 01-18-2005 06:48 PM

Maybe because it was in the Greek Life forum. But I think the general forums needed a "Pearls of Wisdom" and "A Torch to Guide You" type of thread for years. I'm not really annoyed by "annoying" newbies, I just like to push their buttons for awhile. But on a more serious note, if we want newbies to behave a certain way, we should really come out and say it.

Is anyone really judging someone's post based on how long they've been on here or how many posts they've made? I mean, what does that have to do with with the content of a discussion? An old idiot is just as dumb as a new one, vice versa...

Yea, seeing someone ask which is the best frat/sorority every month or so in a new thread is funny, but that's what the mods are for. Explain the problem and close the thread. There isn't much else to complain about on here.

SO true!

i agree RUGreek. A lot of these elitests on here who want to tell me this board is like rush everyday and that my opinion doesn't count until I've racked up more posts by talking about if i'll wear panties on my wedding day...well they just come off as very pathetic to me. If you're so insecure with yourself that you have to push around new people on the internet of all places, then I feel extremely sorry for you!

I don't know, but I don't feel like its in the interest of Greek unity to push around new members like this. Were the new members in your chapter encouraged to sit back and watch a long time before jumping in and involving themselves? That's not how things work in my chapter.

Well if you get bitchy and make snide comments in response to people trying to explain things to you or help you maybe people wouldn't be losing their patience with you.

I know that I PM'd you and tried to explain things nicely, but you didn't even acknowledge anything I said. And your only acknowledgement of other's trying to help you was to get nasty.

So don't cast stones if you have your own sins.

Be part of the solution. Not the problem

i go away for a day a miss all the fun!!!

IrishPhiSig 01-18-2005 10:17 PM

kddani...all you explained was why call a fraternity a frat was offensive. Three or four other people also explained it to me at the same time. I am sorry.

i personally still don't feel like i did anything wrong other than start a few posts and state my opinions on things a couple of times the way everyone else was. I thought this was a message board. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Maybe you should look at how you're responding to them. You may have good intentions but you're not coming across very well in your posts. A lot of them are coming off as very snippy. People aren't going to respect you if you don't respect them, now what I mean?

I think that you might have gotten off to an awkward start by starting a thread about organization stereotypes. Those threads can hurt people's feelings.

Good luck! :)

i do realize that now. I didn't want people to NAME organizations, but i guess i can see people getting bent out of shape about that.
