common things you never knew

Until I got to high school, I never knew what those Ped Xing signs were. Our cross country team had sweatshirts that said XC and I was always confused. Then I put two and two together and realized the X meant cross. I seriously used to be like, "what the hell is ped xing?"

Did anyone else think anything dumb like this?

I have a friend who, at the age of 21, when we were on a road trip, asks out of nowhere, "What does 'Min 45' mean?"

After stifling the uncontrollable desire to laugh hysterically, I explain to her that on the interstates, you're supposed to drive at a minimum speed of 45 miles per hour, or that you can be ticketed. She, being a driver herself, could not believe that you could receive a ticket for not driving fast enough.

This is also the girl who failed the praxis exam 4 times before deciding that she should change her major so she could graduate. She still wants to be a teacher. :)

In 9th grade, someone asked me "What's the first note of an A major scale?".

The sad thing was that he played clarinet in the band for 4 years.

One day I was in the drive through at Whataburger with one of my best friends my senior year of high school. Right by the window there was a sign that read, "Condiments available upon request." She lookd at me shocked and said, "they just hand those out here to anyone?!" I had to smack my forehead and laugh. Kristin, CONDIMENTS, like ketchup, mustard, etc. NOT CONDOMS!

I know I have said this somewhere else....When I was little, I used to think Marion Barry was two people. (Mary and Barry)

I just read all the stuff on DGqueen in the other thread.. I'm shocked. I hope this gets figured out cuz now I'm curious!

Up until maybe 3 years ago, I didn't know what a Pro-Bowler was. I didn't know much about football, needless to say. I was watching a game with Mr. SSS and the commentators said something about some dude being a pro-bowler. I said to Mr. SSS (who definitely laughed at me afterwards), "You mean this guy is a pro football player and a professional bowler?"

I've since learned a lot more about football and actually enjoy the sport now.

I didn't know how to cook rice until I got to college.

How I lived 18 years in a Filipino household without ever cooking rice is beyond me.

I didn't know that you couldn't put wax paper in the oven. I learned my lesson this weekend when I was trying to bake cookies. I didn't want them to stick to the cookie tray. :(
