9 year old is homeschooled because mom doesn't have residency status

Basically, Brenna Freeman can't go to school unless her mom and stepfather pay the foreign student fees or her stepfather adopts her. They can't afford either. However, the ministry of education says that Brenna should be able to go to public school since her mom's been in Canada for more than two years, meaning her visitor's status has expired. |
I don't feel like registering. Are they saying she is ilegal but that the kid is entitled to an education anyway? No wonder taxes are high.
Shouldn't they just deport her, thus ending the problem? |
Well you can't argue the issue without the content... so here's the article - (which isn't a violation of copyright laws here in Canada - you just gotta reference your sources - like the Star did)

Shouldn't they change the title to read: 9 Year Old is Homeschooled because Mom didn't think to look ahead to make sure her child was covered when she self centeredly decided to opt for her own happiness by marrying a man?
She can hardly argue that she made the decision to marry him out of even a passing concern for her daughter. Glad we exported her to Canada. |
back to the original topic:
i wish the US would do that. it would improve education by focusing money on students whose parents actually pay school taxes. |

Update...
Brenna is now going to school. Her community is going to help pay for the foreign student tuition until her mom's papers are processed. Quote:
