Rush Question

Hey everyone I have a quick question for you.

A new chapter is colonizing at my school and I recently got in touch with the Traveling Educational Consultant. They are having events in the upcoming week and I attend a large school. She said I could e-mail/IM/call her with any questions I have. Are there any questions I can/should ask so she will remember me when I get a chance to meet her in person? Any pointers on this would be helpful. If the answer is in another thread just point me in the right direction and I'll check it out. =)

I think meeting with the consultant before the events would be a great idea. But be prepared before you do. Research the organization, know what they are about before you talk to her. Also have a list of questions that you want to ask her prepared. Do not meet with her and say tell me about your organization, that is what the informational meetings are for. Use the time to ask her about the colonization process, about the time commitment, what they are looking for in members, why she joined, why she became a traveling consultant. Yes, it will give you an headstart. I know because I did it. I was a founding sister of my chapter and I was so scared beforehand. I was too unsure to even go up to her at the table she put up in the campus center. I emailed her saying that I hadn't been able to stop at the table because of a busy schedule (not completely a lie) and that I would really like to learn more about AXO. We set up a time to meet the next day. I made sure that I looked nice and she and I had a lovely conversation. I didn't even get all of my questions asked because we keep talking about different things. She made me feel right at ease. When I did go to the informational meetings, there was a friendly face to greet me and the interview was cake because they already knew who I was.

So yes, if you are really interested, contact her, but be smart, look presentable, and ask lots of really good questions.

Good Luck!

Welcome to Greekchat! :)

I second what AXOeva has said. Definitely take advantage of this opportunity. If you can't meet with her in person ahead of time, I would call her so she can at least put a voice with your name - email and IM can be a bit impersonal.

Questions about the time commitment and colonization process are good. Also, ask about their philanthropy work. Talk a little bit about yourself, maybe mentioning some clubs you've been involved in (especially if you were/are in a leadership role) and/or some volunteer work you've done. You will go into more detail during your interview, but it's not wrong to mention it beforehand.

I'm also a chapter founder (although my situation was a little different - I was a member of a local sorority that became a chapter of AEPhi, so we didn't have individual interviews). It was a great experience creating something new and taking on a leadership role, and being able to establish new traditions.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the advice so far! I tried to call her and left her a message even though she seems to be online =) The first recruitment event is Sunday. Hopefully she'll get back to me before then. The event is from 11:30AM to 2 PM and says to stop by for as long as you would like. Any recommendations as to what a good time to get there and a good amount of time to stay would be?

I'm really excited about it. I've been looking forward to this organization joining my school for a long time. As I said before any advice, pointers, or info is really appreciated. Thanks!

I would think that arriving promptly at 11:30 am shows more interest than wandering in later. Stay until you've met as many people as you can meet and have had your questions answered, and as long as you're having fun! You want to be remembered (in a positive way) so the more women you meet, the better.
