mixed messages about Sigmas drinking policies help!

Ladies,

Recently our risk management chair had us sign a form which basically said we wouldnt participate in any hazing which is cool. Our risk management chair said that signing this would also mean that we would not drink with new members. When I emailed our regional cordinator about this they said "As far as new members drinking with initiated members, there are no policies stating that new members and initiated members can't drink together. Our policies specify that members are to abide by state and federal laws when it comes to consuming alcohol. Drinking is a personal preference and some women choose to drink while others don't". I'm just confused because If I did chose to drink with a new member My chapter said I would be put on membership discipline and possible be terminated, but then national cordinators said its a personal choice. have any of you been in a similar situation?

I hope the Sigmas don't mind me butting in...

Obviously anyone under 21 shouldn't be drinking any time, anywhere. But I believe what your risk mgmt chair referred to is that there will be no official sorority sponsored activities that the NMs are at that involve alcohol.

If you and one of the NMs are both 21 and go to a bar together, there's nothing wrong with that.

You're right, 33. If you and the NM are of age and it's on your own time and not @ an official Sigma event then it's perfectly okay. And no, I don't mind you coming in :)

actually she said if any member, even one of drinking age could not drink with or around a new member despite it even being a non Tri-Sigma event.

I think the whole not drinking with new members could potentially be a local chapter rule or a campus mandated rule. I know that we, Epsilon Rho chapter, have some rules which are university mandated that are much stricter than our national rules.
