Beltran To Mets
With Pedro there too, should make for an interesting season. Is it spring yet?

What will be interesting is if Pedro shows up on the first day of spring training, and how long it will take him to be "disrespected" by the NY media.
Beltran has had a good history, but who knows how he will do in NYC. It's a whole different ballgame (no pun intended) with how harsh the media is. If he plays like he has the past couple of years, solid signing (although the money may be a bit off). For Minaya's sake, Pedro and Beltran had better have good seasons. |

Well, if he wasn't going to the Cubs, at least he's out of the NL Central.

I love Mets games.
There are 5 people in the stands. The tickets are 5 pennies or free from some newspaper with color print. The girls chew gum real loud and slick their hair back. Reminds me of the White Sox. -Rudey |
Beltran . . . lifetime .270 hitter, averages 28 jacks, only hit more than 30 once (and half of those were in Enron), didn't have a homer in september, career OBP of .351 . . .
Obviously I'm nitpicking the (few) negatives in his game, as he's a great player and he's 27, so he's right in his prime. However, $119 million is pretty far out of line, maybe even more so than the Pedro signing. Now there's talk of signing Delgado, too, to a 6 or 7 year contract. Insane! All this, and the Mets still have no 3B, a replacement-level SS, a 21 year old 2B who already has an extensive injury history, a LF who strikes out 150+ times a season, a RF who hasn't played 100 games in years, and a C who can't possibly play 120 games behind the plate, even if he is a hall of famer. Add to that a bad bullpen, and questionable pitching including an underachieving injury risk (Benson) and a decaying corpse (Glavine) . . . Congratulations Mets fans, you locked up third place in the NL East. |
I think the Mets will rival the Braves if Pedro stays healthy and Beltran can handle the New York media.

Boo on all of you.
We Mets fans have hope, and its not just wishful thinking. This will be a great season. Many of you will wish that your favorite teams are as good as the 2005 New York Metropolitans. |

My favorite team is FAR better because of the ridiculous signings of the Mets - for taking Petey's frayed rotator cuff off the books, and for blocking Beltran's other destinations (notably NYY). Welcome to salary prison, Russ, with very little farm system to back it up - although the PR behind the signings, which was Minaya's biggest concern, is apparently working well. David Wright better hit 30 HR and field over .900 . . . |
