letter of recommendation question

I know that there are several threads dedicated to letters of recommendation, but I searched and I can't find any that address this particular question.

I'm a little confused as to exactly who can write a letter of recommendation. (I'm aware that the person writing the rec has to be a member of that GLO.) I read in one thread that active collegiate members can write a letter of recommendation. However, this piece of advice was dedicated to a specific GLO, so I wasn't sure if it applied to all the GLOs. I have been under the impression that only alumni members could write letters of recommendation... It would be very helpful if someone could clarify whether all actives in all GLOs can write recs, or whether this is only for specific GLOs or whether this piece of information is totally false.

Thank you!

While every GLO has its own rules, most consider recommendations from:

An Alumna (from any chapter)
An Alumnae Association (especially from the PNM's locale)
or
An Active member who is NOT a member of the chapter which the PNM is rushing.

Anyone who has more/different rules, please post away!

I *think* Phi Mu has a way to write a sort of letter of introduction to another chapter. This IS NOT considered an official recommendation though.

In Alpha Phi any initiated member may write a letter of recommendation for a PNM.

in zeta tau alpha

an initiated collegiate member may write a recommendation, but it must be co-signed by an alumna. and of course, an alumna may write a recommendation.

My memory (which of course is not always perfect) says that's our policy as well. We actually just changed it las convention to allow collegiates to write them.

For the quickest and most accurate answer, contact National Panhellenic Council. The website is www.npcwomen.org. They can also put you in contact with the alumnae panhellenic in your area. This alum pan will help you secure recs for recruitment. Also talk to your family, friends and teachers. You never know who is Greek!
