It's a nickname composed of a contraction of two out of the three letters of their scroll motto on the shield in their coat of arms: Phi Nu Pi.

No, I don't know what it means. It's more than likely a secret motto known only to them.

.....back in the late 80s/early 90s, there used to be a commercial for Nuprin headache tablets, and their tagline/slogan was:

NUPE IT!

I actually asked a Kappa about this, and he laughed and said his brothers was trippin' off the slogan.
