I found some of the answers to my questions. Thanks though for the help!!

BUT, back to my point. I was super amped to rush in the fall, but I had a major surgery so ended up missing some events, I called the recruiment people, and greek life office and mentioned I'd probably not make it, but I got invites anyway. I talked to the recruiment people of each house and they said they'd still vote on me as if I'd been there. I was a little worried, and just as I'd thought, I didn't end up with bids,... I checked out COB events, but I was already biased and the houses just weren't for me... It was so important for it to feel like home to me, and I got that feeling from only one house, so I was just really super partial to it. So our formal Spring rush is coming up, and I don't want to do it for personal reasons, I'm doing a internship, and taking 19 credits. So, that leaves Fall 05. Also, my junior year. So, I'm just nervous, like should I just give up the aspiration, or just go to those houses again? Is it really that looked down apon to join so late?... Also, different houses on my campus have different GPA requirements, and right now I had to withdraw from a class late and ended up with an F. So my GPA went down. Only 2 houses can even take me with that GPA, and the ones I loved its about .4 points too low , so thats another reason I'm considering waiting... is that a good idea? I found some of the answers to my questions through out other threads! Thanks though for the help!

If your GPA is low enough to limit your choices, perhaps you should focus on your academics and then reconsider recruitment options in the future.

Keep in mind that the published chapter GPAs are the minimum GPAs permitted for pledging. They do not mean that if you have that GPA you will get a bid. Let's say that on your campus, ABC lists 2.5 as their GPA requirement, DEF lists a 2.9 GPA and GH lists a 2.25 GPA. The reality may be that ABC actually only accepts new members with a 3.2 and higher GPA, DEF considers any woman with a 2.9 and up, and GH is looking for women at the top of the 4.0 scale and rarely will accept new members under a 3.0.

Also, since it sounds as if you may have had some major health issues, you may be able to petition the late drop be changed from the F to a withdrawal. Check with your school's policies and contact your physicians if needed for supporting paperwork to submit if you petition (speaking from personal experience on this one!)

Instead of sorority recruitment and sorority life, take this semester to get involved with another campus organization that is less demanding of your time. You will have fun, make friends and still be able to accomplish your goals. Take this time to get your grades up.

If you are still interested in recruitment later on, do realize that having a low GPA and/or being an upperclassman will make it more likely you will have a less competitive recruitment than an underclassman.

Consult with the office of Greek Life at your school regarding questions and requirements related to your school's recruitment events.

ETA: You are in college to get an education. If your grades are suffering, make it your priority to get them up. If sorority life interests you, keep in mind that sororities have high academic standards. This begins with the membership selection process (recruitment) and is maintained while all sisters are active collegians.

You could read all the books for a degree faster than 4 years on your own. You could take acredited online classes and get a degree and learn the information that way,

I think in today's day and age, and maybe always, we are more in college for the experience, a sort of rite of passage.

We can't tell you if being a junior with a 3.0 GPA is going to hurt you in recruitment. If you're not up to recruitment in the spring due to your other obligations, go with your gut and don't rush. Sorority life is a serious time committment, especially during your new member period.

If you have friends in other chapters and you hang out with them and their sisters, that's certainly a great advantage coming into recruitment over other girls who don't have those kinds of connections-- and your knowing girls in sororities, whether or not you rush, is also a good way to make friends. Keep hanging out with your friends-- they may invite you to an informal event.

Rush when you're ready. It may not mean you will get the bid you want, or a bid at all, but that's the truth no matter if you are a freshman or a senior. Being an upperclassman may work against you. Or it may not. It just depends on you, the chapters that are holding recruitment and what you are both looking for.
