Old Skool--New School...It's All Greek to Me!
 

This is a spin off of a topic found elsewhere on GC. When I was a younger member of Zeta we did not use handsigns as frequently as they are used today. As a matter of fact if you look at my campus yearbook Greek photos (late 70s-early 80s and don't call me old-lol) few BGLO members are using handsigns, and the signs that some of them do use bare only a fant resemblence to the ones in use today. What are some of today's BGLO traditions that would make BGLO members 20, 30 or more years your senior pause and say "what in the world is that?"
Here are a few my memories and my current realities...

1. My memory--We frequently sang in the quad. Few steps just some good old fashioned singing. My current reality--Public singing doesn't seem to be as popular. It seems mostly reserved for private functions.

2. My memory--Stepping at MY organization's functions. My current reality--Watching folks stroll to EVERY song and at EVERY organizations functions. In fact, some BGLO members kind of forget that you can have a little fun with folks at a BGLO party by simply dancing. All that hopping and jumping and pushing going on kind of ruins the event. LOL

Okay GCers have fun with the topic. What are your observations?

Well, I'm a neo, but I have definitely observed that the call (OO-OOP) seems to perturb older Sorors because it's unofficial. When I was in college (about 6 years ago) it wasn't common for other Greeks to step at each others parties either, so I think that is still a current trend (that's just my observation).

Other than that, I can only think back to when my older relatives who are greek would mention giving their greek pins to their significant other as a sign of their dating, but that has been out for so long now. Anyway, that's all folks!
