Elon IFC Expansion

I just looked at Elon's Greek Life calendar, and it looks like Elon's IFC will be expanding this spring. Rumors have been circulating about a new fraternity, and I even have a friend who is petitioning Zeta Beta Tau to come to campus. Just for a little bit of background information, Elon has 6 fraternities on campus:

Kappa Sigma
Sigma Pi
Sigma Chi
Pi Kappa Phi
Kappa Alpha Order
Lambda Chi Alpha

Elon's Panhellenic was recently expanded with the addition of Delta Delta Delta (woo hoo!), bringing the total number of GLOs to 21 (6 IFC, 8 NPC, 7 NPHC). According to the calendar, presentations will be made April 4-7, 2005. I don't know what fraternities are currently interested in colonizing at Elon, other then possibly ZBT. But expansion has always been an exciting event at Elon. :)

There have been rumors for years about Sigma Nu coming to campus. I know some guys who petitioned for it a fewyears ago, but IFC wasn't ready to expand.

Yup, Elon is a fabulous place for Greeks :)

When they decided to have Tri-Delta colonize, it took FOREVER for them to announce the decision. Hopefully our campus will speed things along this year so we'll know and not be checking every five seconds for an update

I'm not familar with how IFC expansion works, but I plan on attending at least one presentation if they are open to the Greek community.

Can anyone fill me in on how IFC expansion works? Is it just like NPC?

For many fraternities, whether they move onto a campus or not has absolutely nothing to do with an IFC. For some it does. Some fraternities even start out as interest groups that want to affiliate with a certain national office later. NPC would probably be just a tad bit different and more structured I would think.

IFCs exist locally. NPC is a national organization. Most chapters in an IFC belong to a national fraternity that belongs to the NIC.

There is no one way for IFC expansion, as it varries by campus.

NIC members are far more market oriented, where NPC groups are very socialistic.

*bump*

Presentations are next week! Three fraternities will be presenting; Phi Kappa Tau, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Delta Tau Delta. Here is the schedule.

Sigma Phi Epsilon use to have a chapter at Elon for a good 30 years before it closed in the 90s. Delta Tau Delta never had a chapter at Elon, and I'm pretty sure Phi Kappa Tau never did either.

Best of luck to everyone! :D

(not so secretly rooting for Phi Tau) but good luck to everyone :) Wish this kind of stuff was happening at my campus.

I just read this in the Pendulum , our student newspaper:

Fraternity Expansion Update

May 1st is when we'll find out :)

Wow, you beat me to it Sharon!

What gets me is how open Greek Life is about fraternity expansion at Elon. The public barely knew about Panhellenic expansion last year other than word of mouth, unless I totally missed something. Which for me, it's a distinct possibility. :D

cool! best of luck to them.

i wish our school would bring in another sorority. right now we only have two: kappa alpha theta and alpha gamma delta.

Elon has very strong demographics for greek life. At least that's what Ben has told me.

Congrat to SigEp!

Way to scoop me with the news, Sharon!

Congratulations to Sigma Phi Epsilon! I know a great guy who is very interested in joining and if all of the founding brothers of the chapter are like him, I know it will be a great chapter!
