Dropping line
 

If you dropped line for a certain sorority, is it hard for you to pledge a different sorority?

I would definitely say it's hard! What if you decided to pledge another sorority and your dean found out that you were on line for another sorority... I don't think the reception by the ladies of that sorority would be plesant... of course there are other extenuating circumstances and I don't know yours, but can you explain why you dropped (I know it isn't any of my buisness but it would help in answering the question further.

Well, I believe it depends on how long you were on line for the first org. for some org. you cannot joint another org. after you pass a certain stage of the process. Also, if every one knew you were on line, it is going to be difficult to move on to the one you think you now want to joint. I know of a lady who was on line for XYZ org. and after 5 weeks dropped. Now she is a member of ABC sorority. This is the reason why I say BE SURE OF WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!! This person I mentioned above now gets little if any respect from XYZ members and most of the greek body. Maybe it also had to do with the difference between the process for XYZ and ABC sororities. Although it should not matter what others think, you don't want to look insecure of what you want.

Anything worth having will not be easy to obtain.

If this new sorority of choice doesnt know about it, then it wouldnt be hard.

But if they do, it will almost impossible for a couple of reasons:

#1. Obviously you thought ABC sorority was better than XYZ when you decided to pledge them, and no organization I know of is willing to play second best.

#2. If you couldnt handle the pledge process once, it's highly doubtful that you will be able to hang with the other sorority's process -- and no one likes to have their time wasted. (and as a side note, we ALL know that pledging is illegal, but we'd be kidding ourselves if we pretended it didnt exist)

and

#3. Since you used the term "dropped line", I am assuming that you were pledging a BGLO. And speaking on behalf of the fam, I think its safe to say that the big 4 are interested in women who are dedicated to pursuing membership in THEIR particular sorority - not girls who want to join ANY sorority.

That's why we always stress doing your RESEARCH!!!! If you dont, you could spend the rest of your life in an organization you dont like, or make a mistake like this and be blacklisted!

I'm not in a BGLO but I think I understand the reasons behind research and be absolutely sure about your choice before attending rush.

I'm guessing that you realize that the second sorority isn't really your second choice but that it should have been the first sorority you wanted.

I'd suggest that when given the opportunity, make it crystal clear to the members why you pledged the other sorority and why you realize now that you didn't fully listen to your heart. If you're meant to become a member at this stage in your life, they'll understand and consider you for their line.

I feel that when you pledge any GLO or BGLO that it is for life. When you pledge you should know what your getting into. Making uninformed decisions isn't an excuse. It's not some trendy, "everybody's doing it" thing. I know that I would never have been happy anywhere else, I knew this before I even got on the campus. My letters represent everything I strive to be and focus on what I want to acheive. The letters I wear are the only letters I would have ever and will ever wear. It isn't a choice it's a destiny for me.

That's just how I feel about it.

It all depends. I know of someone who dropped line for XYZ sorority while she was in college but later pledged a grad chapter of ABC sorority. The gap helps. Trying to do it while attending the same university seems to be a bit dicy. I also know of people who tried at one school than transferred and hoped to finish before they were found out.
