Hazing?
Our chapter president mentioned in meeting that there was one of our chapters in the south that is in hot water for supposedly paddling a pledge into kidney failure.
Does anyone know if there is any truth to this rumor? I did a search and couldnt find any related news stories. If this is just a rumor, I would like to dispell it before it gets around too much on our campus. |
I also heard this rumor from guys that went to Nationals this August. From what I was told it was our Arizona chapter (Epsilon Zeta) and that they were then closed down. I tried to look this up on news sites it would have been on and couldn't find anything. The weirdest part if this were true was that Arizona won "Most Improved Chapter" at Grand Chapter this year, which is why I think this is just misinformation. Most likely this story was about some other fraternity chapter in Arizona and people jumped to the assumption that is was ours.
I haven't heard anything about any other chapters in the South. I guess we will find out at Regionals in February. |
There was a thread that mention a Arkansas chapter was shuted down because of that in the Risk Mangement section. It was the Delta Iota Chapter at Southern Arkansas University.

Yep you were right it was Arkansas. And some how I was told Arizona, which is why rumors are so retarded.
Here is the news article I found ******* 5/11/04 Magnolia (AP) - A lawsuit filed in Columbia County Circuit Court alleges that members of a Southern Arkansas University fraternity beat a pledge so badly he spent eleven days in a hospital, underwent kidney dialysis and must have skin graft surgery. The suit claims that during an April 16th initiation, members from the Delta Iota chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity beat 19-year-old Ty Keith with excessive force on his buttocks, thighs and back. The incident happened off campus, and Keith has not returned to school since then. SAU officials suspended the fraternity April 29th. The suit names as defendants the national fraternity and the local chapter in Magnolia, local chapter president Adam Dixon, and chapter adviser J. Courson. Neither Dixon nor Courson could be reached for comment. Keith is asking for a jury determination of punitive damages. |
Thanks guys.
