For all you teachers
my cousin, also an educator, sent this to me and i wanted to share it...
TIRED OF THOSE HIGH PAID TEACHERS! I, for one, am sick and tired of those high paid teachers. Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work nine or ten months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do, baby-sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage. That's right.........I would give them $3 dollars an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time. That would be $15 a day. Each parent should pay $15 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now, how many do they teach in a day....maybe 25. Then that's 15 X 25=$375 a day. But remember they only work 180 days a year! I'm not going to pay them for any vacations. Let's see...that's 375 x 180=$67,500.00 (Hold on, my calculator must need batteries!) What about those special teachers or the ones with Masters Degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage just to be fair. Let's round it off to $6 an hour. That would be $6 times 5 hours times 25 children times 180 days = $135,000.00 per year. Wait a minute, there is something wrong here!!! There sure is, huh????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------ I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/confangry.gif Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/tiere/ride.gif Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind http://www.plauder-smilies.de/nut.gif [This message has been edited by MeezDiscreet (edited July 27, 2001).] |

I got another one...
After being interviewed by the school administration, the eager
teaching prospect said, "Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids, and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning. And I'm supposed to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, modify their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse and even censor their t-shirt messages and dress habits. You want me to wage a war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for weapons of mass destruction, and raise their self esteem. You want me to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship, fair play, how to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job. I am to check their heads for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of anti-social behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarships, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and oh, make sure that I give the girls in my class fifty percent of my attention. My contract requires me to work on my own time after school, evenings and weekends grading papers. Also, I must spend my summer vacation, at my own expense, working toward advance certification and a Masters degree. And on my own time you want me to attend committee and faculty meetings, PTA meetings, and participate in staff development training. I am to be a paragon of virtue, larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority. You want me to incorporate technology in to the learning experience, monitor web sites, and relate personally with each student. That includes deciding who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit a crime in school. I am to make sure all students pass the mandatory state exams, even those who don't come to school regularly or complete any of their assignments. Plus, I am to make sure that all of the students with handicaps get an equal education regardless of the extent of their mental or physical handicap. And I am to communicate regularly with the parents by letter, telephone, newsletter and report card. All of this I am to do with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a big smile AND on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps! You want me to do all of this and yet you expect me NOT TO PRAY ! |

Girl, this is too much LOL. This is exactly what they make us do. And the salary thing is too much, people need to see this and see what LITTLE bit of money we put up with for the CRAP LOAD of work we do. Its pretty near criminal.

:wincing: making me not want to be a teacher again.

My biggest career goal is to begin a teaching career in the 2005-2006 school year. Those two pieces don't make my decision easier, but I know it's for the kids. I give all due respect to teachers. Can someone send this to the president or at least the school superintendents? God bless all of y'all at the beginning of this new school year.
Q: Do any of you teachers have second jobs during the school year? I know plenty who do, and I honestly can't blame them, especially those trying to live within their means. |

I have this discussion with fellow teachers often and it kills me that teachers aren't making enough money to make ends meet. I am doing OK because I am not married, nor do I have kids. But I know people raising kids alone on their salary and are struggling. That's why I am pursuing a Master's degree to boost the pay. But I don't plan on staying in the field past this school year (or perhaps the next depending on how things go). I know that I haven't been in school three years short of forever to make this measly salary. It is better than nothing, but it's not that far from nothing either. |
