Democracy is one of the worst system of government

Do you agree or not?

Its sloppy and messy, but after a republic, its the third best system known to man. The best system would be total rule over all living things by me, but support for that system doesn't seem to be gaining much steam.

I don't know... I can't think of a truely democratic state to examine - other than historically (Athens). Other than that I'm not a fan of it playing Civilization :p

I agree. But even that was a little off. I'm more comfortable with a Republic (obviously, I'm American...LOL!) But, honestly, in a perfect world, communism would be ideal. Unfortunately, humans can't seem to pull it off.

Ah the whole looks good in theory but just isn't practical...

Democracy is founded on the idea that one million people's opinion is going to be better than one person's.

Its a logical fallacy.

moe.ron 12-19-2004 02:32 PM

Democracy is mob rule. If practiced, it is one of the worst form of government because it has the potential to victimized the minority. As noted, republicanism is the best form of government we have now.

preciousjeni 12-19-2004 07:59 PM

RACooper: Certainly not practical in the States! We're way too caught up in capitalism.

moe.ron: I agree 100% on the mob rule. I mean, if the U.S. were a democracy, we might still have slaves since even people who didn't own slaves were not completely against it. Thank goodness for the War of Northern Aggression...I mean...the Civil War. (All jokes aside, I thank GOD that we no longer have laws that enable the enslavement of ANYONE!)

Yes. Especially Federal Republicanism. Yeah.

seeing as my family is descended from royalty- I have no problems with America switching to monarchy with lordships.

The way I see it, it's more a matter of efficiency than "good."

Democracy is great -- but not efficient. The most efficient (I think) is socialism (which is different from Communism in reality), but given the choice, I'll take democracy.

preciousjeni 12-20-2004 11:05 AM

I'm not sure where socialism is efficient...maybe at the grand level, but at the individual level it is frustrating.

I probably should have said that socialism in its purest form. Which, like any other thing, has never been achieved.

Guess you could say that about any other form of anything as well.

Ah yes... but only if your lineage is acknowledged... in other words does your family still maintain the neccesary titles and holdings to be part of the peerage?

You can say the say the same thing about any form of government with utopian aspirations. The problem with designing utopia is that one man's utopia is another's hell.
