Ole Miss gets a new head coach from USC!

dammit, I was hopin Ole Miss would steal Erickson away. But they made the right choice in Orgeron. This guy is BAD ASS. Very intense and all of Ole Miss will love him. Definately a personality!

Ed Orgeron, Southern California's assistant head coach and defensive line coach, has agreed to become the new coach at Mississippi, USC athletic department sources have told ESPN.com.

Orgeron will be introduced at a news conference Thursday morning in Oxford, Miss.

Meanwhile, the USC coaching staff was meeting Wednesday afternoon to decide whether Orgeron will continue in his role through the national championship game. The top-ranked Trojans play No. 2 Oklahoma for the BCS title in the FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 4.

Mississippi athletic director Pete Boone and Orgeron, a Louisiana native, were meeting in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon to finalize the coach's contract, ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel reports.

Ole Miss shifted its coaching search to the West Coast in its third week looking for a replacement for David Cutcliffe, who was fired Dec. 1 after his first losing season in Oxford.

49ers coach Dennis Erickson talked with university officials on Tuesday night, but Erickson informed his players during a Wednesday morning team meeting that he would not leave for the Mississippi job.

Assistants being hired at other schools...

This bodes well for OU and reminds me of last year when Mike Stoops went to Arizona.

Of course, Pelini, the co-defensive coordinator for OU is apparently interviewing at Pitt.

Not to be negative here, but I'm sure we'll still suck.

Maybe the Giants could send Eli back?

Just kidding; I know he'll be good, it's just the frustrated Giants fan in me talking.

I think he'll do fine. I don't think there'd be so much pressure for him to produce immediately if it weren't for what Roethlesberger is doing up in Pittsburgh. That guy's a freak though.

I've met a few guys from Eli's chapter at national conventions. That chapter produces some very notable (and sometimes notorious) people. I was surprised that Eli didn't QB their Charity Bowl team, or at least coach it.

Sigma Nu is awesome at Ole Miss. Eli would've never been allowed to play in the Sigma Nu football game. That'd suck if he got hurt. Coach Cut would've never allowed it. Eli wasn't real involved with Sigma Nu either...at least not during football season. Their chapter is huge.
