Marketing Your Panhellenic Council

I have a question for you guys.

What were some good marketing ideas/tools that have worked on your campus as far as promoting sorority life and getting more interest.?

We have a small Greek system and are seeking ways to improve our visibility especially since we don't have houses!

Here are some things that phc did the last year I was in school and I believe that they have continued this, plus added more events.

One main thing that I think def helped was all our sororities got the same long sleeve t-shirt to wear before recruitment as a promotion. It had the theme on the back, all the sororities’ names in a neat design. Then on the front in solid white letters your own sororities name written out. I think each chapter had to purchase so many (prob could get more if wanted) for those girls chosen/volunteered to participate in the go greek night.

They always had a night in the fall semester which they called “fireside” where interested girls could come check everything out before beginning registration.

Now I think they have added to this by having more events around campus.

I believe they also sent out postcards to all those on campus as well.

Hope this helps a little.

PR for Panhellenic this fall for recruitment:

*Mailers to freshmen during the summer encouraging them to go greek.

*Mailers also stuck in upperclassmen mailboxes.

*Recruitment info night.

*"Go Greek!" chalking all over campus.

*Every chapter got "Go Greek" shirts for everyone in their chapter to wear.

On my campus we used to get a lot of freshmen interested during orientation. All the organizations set up booths and panhellenic council had one set up along with girls in Go Greek Tee's. Also during orientation there is a time for freshmen students to pick something they want to learn more about and they go to that presentation. They can pick from things like Greek Life and other big groups of organizations on campus. We'd also hand out our pamphlets and sign up information then as well.
Hope this helps.

We used to do Freshmen Move In Day where all the sororities wore mathing recruitment shirts and helped incoming freshmen and their parents move their stuff into the dorms....people were greatful for the extra hands and it was a great way to meet people early and get them thinking about rush!

panhell

I went to a very large greek school with very large chapters. Even so, we were constantly marketing the panhellenic system as a whole. One idea is one day during rush, ALL sororities forgo their specific letters and wear the school's panhellenic tshirt.

Also, sometimes panhellenic would pass out sodas during finals in the library.

Panhellenic could also participate in NONGREEK fundraisers and charities events to market the greek system as a whole.

Panhellenic always gets the sororities to wear shirts to promote rush. We had really cute black tight short sleeve tees to wear this year. On the front it said something like West Virginia University Fall Recruitment, and on the back it said like "Turns out not where you are but who you're with that really matters." with all the sororities underneath. Our own sorority was written on the sleeve.
Last year's shirts said "Some things are worth the wait.. some things are worth the rush!"

I think wearing shirts to promote rushing is definitely a good idea. Someone else I think a lot of the girls do is just talk to cute girls when they're out or in class and stuff. Two of my sisters said they sat by this really cute girl in class and they always wrote alpha phi stuff on their notes hoping to get her attention, haha. I'm not sure if she ended up rushing though.

Market recruitment as joining a sorority, and do not allow for other sororities to advertise on their own for their recruitment until after the formal process is over. If you have issues within your panhellenic council, they need to be dealt with in terms of resolving problems, because no matter how much you market, those things show through. You have to market it as a community, and shoe exactly what the benefits are of Greek Life. Think of this...about 60% of your campus are joiners...you just have to find the one or two things that will get them interested to do so.
