Big/Lil Week
I was just wondering if big/lil week is where you pick your big and you exchange presents? I wasn't too sure how that works. Ours is coming up really soon, and I have no idea on what kind of stuff I should get for my big...do you guys have any ideas, or what things did you do for your big that worked out well? Thanks!

Hey Honeybee
I'm not dure what you have in mind for a gift but if you go to the Up & Coming National GLOs section of the board & click the 'Paraphanelia for Growing organizations' thread, there are a bunch of sites. They have some really cute gift ideas. Good luck Allison |
Hi Honeybee!
In my sorority, and all the chapters on my campus...Big/Lil Week is known as Mystery Week. The week before you tell your Pledge Mom some names of girls that you'd like to be your big, then she matches up your pledge class. During Mystery Week YOU get presents from your big every day. But you don't know who she is yet. With each present we leave a note with a clue. But we don't always leave truthful clues. :P I can't tell you how much fun it is to see your lil grilling people trying to figure out who you are. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Sometimes bigs will even team up to completely throw off their lils. We'll write each others notes so handwriting doesn't give it away. Sometimes we'll get special presents for the other lil so that they get completely confused! The week ends with Revealing. You finally find out who she is!! If you like a small present wouldn't be a horrible thing. But it's certainly not required. Flowers are cool, that's what I gave my big. She was shocked! |
My daughter got her Big Sis a paddle...at her school I think that was what was expected, because she said that all the other new members had done the same thing. I would think a picture frame with the Greek letters and her name or an engraved little box would be good also.

Paddles completely slipped my mind. We don't present them until initiation. So you may have a while.
QT--A pledge mom is also known as the pledge educator. She an active member of the chatper. Her job is to teach the new members the history and some traditions of the sorority. During your pledge period she'll probably be the active that you have the most contact with. The house mom is an older woman who, well acts like the mom of the house. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif She may be a sister of the sorority, another sorority, or not even Greek. She takes care of the day to day running of the house. She'll plan the meals with the cook, things like that. Not all chapters have a house mom. When that's the case, there will be a house manager. That would be an active sister who basically does all the things the house mom would do. |
Thanks SoCalGirl..now I get it

Quick question..not to take this thread off topic, but is a Pledge Mom the same as a House Mom? & does every sorority have Pledge Moms?
