I almost got jacked last night!

Ok, so last night I met up with my friend at this jazz club in Fullerton. Well I couldn’t quite find the club, so I was walking around the streets. It was around 8 o clock, really dark and the streets were totally empty. So I notice this man at the corner of my eye. I turn around and it’s a Mexican man, wearing really dark clothing with a hood over his head. Well instantly I become suspicious. So I see him at the corner of the eye, so I walk around the corner of the street. I turn around, and he is right there behind me. So then I cross the street onto the street in which he was on. I turn around, and he is about 30 feet away from me on the same street (anytime I turn around...he looks at me real quick and turn his head away). So then I am like. Ok I am gonna die. But I am gonna put up a fucking fight with this motherfucker. so I cross the street AGAIN but this time I grab my cell phone in my pocket, I dial 911 press talk and then I press end (so just incase something happened, I could just press redial). Anyways, so I cross the street again (onto the original street I was on) and I turn around as if I am waiting for him. And at this point, he is halfway on the street, and he looks at me. And I just keep looking at him, making sure my face is turned to him so I can see everything he is doing. So he walks up to me, and I have my hand in my pocket. Both of them clenched up in a fist. And he walks closer and closer, and he keeps staring at me, and I keep staring at him. And he has both of his eyes like bulging as if he is ready to do something to me. So then I raise my eyes too because I have all this adrenaline going on, and dammit. I know I am gonna get jacked at this point, but I don’t care. If something happens I am gonna put up a fight. So then I don’t know why I did this but I lipped the words “I’m gonna FUCK you up" to him. This is all as he is walking towards me, and we are both looking at each other. He is 50 feet away, then 40 feet, and 30 feet. To the point where he is 10 feet away from me, and we are facing each other on the same sidewalk. And I start tapping my left leg because I am nervous, but it’s as if I am ready to charge him. Then he just stares at me. And I just stare at him. Waiting for each other to make a move
. And at this point I am so ready, I am fuming. All these things are running through my mind. My nostrils are flaring, my eyes are bulging, heart pounding.

And we are just staring at each other, eye to eye. Then he walks away. And he crosses the street. And he turns around at me as he is walking away staring at me. And I just keep staring at him
. Then I start walking backwards, still staring at him, making sure I can see him in sight then I was just like fuck this. And I call 911 because I saw a broken window at a car, at the area where he was at. So I call 911 and report him, report exactly what he was wearing, where he was headed. What he looked like
I was so scared. Really scared! Cause he kept following me. And no one was there. So I was just said FUCK IT. I aint gonna let this motherfucker jack me up.

When I got to the jazz club however, I told my friend what had happened and she was upset at me and told me that I should have done nothing and let him take my stuff for safety reasons. Oh well.

THAAAAAAAAAAANK YOU!!

Now that it's been said, I too am very glad you're ok. I tend to disagree with people who say not to fight back or "bear your teeth" to use puppy language.

Um, maybe he should have used "latino" instead of "mexican" (remember he's in Southern California) but otherwise I think you're seeing monsters under the bed.

Seriously, I know! I deleted my earlier post as to not incite any more race discussion, but I live in Southern California too and we don't really have a problem discussing race here...it's kind of a melting pot more than other parts of the country. Also, I got the impression that the scary part about the guy was not the fact that he was mexican, but that he had on dark clothes and a hood and eyes bulging out of his head...:)

Some of you all may have missed the post when someone said that she could relate because once her and her friends got lost going to a party and felt like a "target" because they were "a bunch of white girls in a car"....

Um yeah, that was me and what it actually said was we got lost going to the Forum and I felt we had a target on our car saying "sheltered white girls inside"...I also mentioned that this is when i was in high school. It was more of an insult to myself and my friends than anything else because we were freaked out to get lost in an area where there is known to be a lot of gang activity. I wasn't saying we felt like a target because we were white...it was a joke. Clearly not funny to people who don't live where I do...which is why I deleted it.

Bobby- Glad everything's ok.

It shouldn't matter if the other guy was Mexican, African, Caucasian, Russian, or even a little old lady.... if you feel threatened and someone seems suspicious you have a right to be scared and want to call 911. As for the whole "racial overtones", I believe it was just a wrong word choice in a physical description. But hell, I would've been scared to death if I saw someone dressed in all dark clothes following me and approaching me at night on a dark street without saying anything.

As for your friend saying you should've just let him take your stuff for "safety's sake", I disagree completely. What if it got out of hand and you couldn't get to your cell phone, or worse yet, he took your cell phone leaving you with no money, no phone, no ID, and pretty banged up and unable to move. He could've had a gun, who knows, then it really could've been messy.

Thankfully, everything is alright and no harm was done.

Well for speaking for one who has been out of college and working and living in the "real world" since you were probably in middle school, I would say that,

has racial overtones.

If you cant see something wrong with the fact that you assumed he was suspicious because he happened to be Mexican, then I feel sorry for you. If he was white, wearing the same thing would you have felt so "suspicious" then? (that was rhetorical)

But as I said earlier, I am glad you are ok.

I really don't think the "Mexican" part was the part that made him suspicious...if I were walking late at night and saw a white/mexican/blue/green/etc. guy with dark clothes on and a hood pulled over his head I would instantly become suspicious too...just because someone mentions race doesn't mean they are racist. I think maybe you are the one who is assuming suspicion based on race...LET IT GO
