First gay divorce; custody of cats awarded to prof
The first gay divorce case in Suffolk County, which includes Boston, was filed Wednesday by a male couple who exchanged vows on May 22, five days after same-sex marriage was legalized.
One partner was a 33-year-old religious educator from Boston, the other a 39-year-old professor based in Washington. Since then, the couple said in their divorce filing, "our interests have grown in different directions." Each man signed a settlement attesting that the marriage had "irretrievably broken down." The most difficult part of the settlement appeared to be custody of their three cats, who will live exclusively with the professor. But "in recognition of the emotional hardship of such relinquishment," the settlement reads, the professor agreed to provide his ex "with periodic updates, photographs, and any health-related information pertaining" to the cats. |
current straight divorce rate: 1 out of 2.5
current gay divorce rate: 1 out of several hundred (reports of only 5 divorces out of the 3,000+ same-sex couples that have gotten married in Canada and only a handful in Mass) hell- these guys lasted longer than my sister's first marriage. And way fucking longer than Britney in any of hers. |

think about the cats! |
I hate cats...I mean, I really hate cats. They would be absolutely last on my list of pets to have.

Why do gays want to marry anyway?
Straight men would LOVE it if they could date women and it wasn't legal to marry them. :p That would be like a gift from God. |

225,057,000 Total (including divorced, married, widowed, and separated) 117,172,000 Married with spouse present 3,139,000 Married without spouse present 21,649,000 Divorced Divorced as percentage of total = 9.6% This is misleading as the statistic includes people who were never married but it shows the percentage of divorced people in America. Divorced as percentage of married = 17.99% This shows a ratio of married:divorced people. Of course if someone gets divorced one time and remarries, it doesn't affect the statistic. If someone gets divorced less than they get married (a polygamist out in Utah perhaps) then it might but we figure those freaks are outliers. Now these are for individuals and not couples. As for gay rates...well technically their marriages aren't recognized to begin with right? And it also takes time for a divorce to happen so regardless of whether they are marriages to begin with, you don't have a statistic for divorce that is stable and valid until many years have passed. -Rudey -Rudey |

I saw a creepy talkshow ages ago, where Cat Owners who couldn't bear to live without their cat (the kitty had "passed"), so the petowners had had their dead cats freeze-dried or taxidermied (is that a word?) or something. GROSS!

When I was a child it was an on going joke that were going to get two out of our three cats taxidermied in sleeping positions and then would place them in appropriate places in the house to freak out people.
Why only two out of three? The joke for the third was that she would make a great pair of mittens. I'm not surprised that people do it (taxidermy) but.... still. Ewwwwwww. |
