Longest Pledge Period
I am about to finish the longest pledge period in Beta history (as far as I know).
I pledged the Indiana State University colony in January 1983. The class was initiated at the convention. I did not go as I was ordered to attend an additional Annual Training for the Army Reserves. The colony was closed at the convention. Several requests were made to the surrounding chapters to complete my initiation. All were politely declined. About 18 months ago I met Jonathan Brant, Miami '75, and now Director of The Foundation. He was serving the community by teaching a Boy Scout Adult leadership class. I noticed his e-mail address and we began talking about Beta Theta Pi. He took my story to the the Board of Trustees and they voted to allow me to become a member on the General Fraternity Roll. I understand I will be number 38 or somewhere there abouts. I want to thank the Alpha Iota Chapter at Washington University - St. Louis, Mo for allowing me to join their fall pledge class. Does anyone know of some Beta that has a similar long pledge period? v/r, Ed Bloom |
Congratulations on at least finishing your pledge period and becoming a full member of Beta Theta Pi!!!

That's an awesome, awesome story. Congratulations!
I hope that this news makes it into the magazine so that the thousands of your new brothers can hear about it. I know I can say that my initiation in to Beta was a great moment in my life so far, and that the knowledge of that ritual made the next morning just a little bit brighter. yours in __kai__ Geoff Mickells University of Nebraska Alpha Tau 2063 |
Congrats, I wish you the best - you will not be disappointed.

Welcome to the family! Like many others, initiation helped to further bolster my love and respect for our organization.
May his favorable eye always look upon you! |
