Passing of Soror Dawn Flemming

Dawn crossed at Gamma Kappa Chapter, University of Buffalo.

DAWN FLEMMING, MORNING SHOW RADIO PERSONALITY,
DIES AT THE AGE OF 31
Dawn "Break-a-Dawn" Flemming, Morning Show Personality and Public Service Director for Infinity Broadcasting, Orlando, passed away at Orlando Regional Medical Center on Wednesday December 8th after complications from pregnancy.

Dawn joined Infinity Broadcasting at WBLK in Buffalo, New York, in 1995, as a part-time promotions assistant and on-air personality. In January 2002, she accepted a position as co-host of the morning show team, The Wake-Up Posse, and as Public Service Director, for Infinity Broadcasting's WJHM/102 JAMZ, in Orlando, Florida.

As an advocate for the community, Dawn participated and supported so many charitable and community focused organizations that it would be difficult to mention them all. Included are the Orange County Head Start program, BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation, 2nd Harvest Food Bank, Coalition for the Homeless, national and local NAACP efforts, Hospice of the Comforter, just to name a few. Dawn has also been part of the efforts to raise money earlier this year for a local woman who was killed in a drive by shooting, leaving behind a husband and children. Over $9,000 was raised to provide burial services. Recently, she helped the Florida Blood Centers after the hurricanes and participated in a voter registration effort to encourage people to go out and vote in the 2004 Presidential election. As the Public Service Director, Dawn hosted a weekly show that addressed community needs and highlighted organizations and issues in and around the Orlando area. Included were AIDS awareness, the homeless, civil rights, local schools and colleges, women issues, etc.

Dawn was a competitive and passionate person whose efforts can be seen simply by looking at the walls in her office. They are covered with thank you letters, cards, placques, and certificates from the community who were fortunate to be touched by her kindness and love. Her message to the world was, "You can't choose who you love in this world. But whoever those persons are, tell them you love them as often as possible. We are not promised tomorrow."

Every weekday morning people could hear her infectious laughter as the show discussed local and national topics. The Wake Up Posse is the #1 morning show in the Orlando community-a testament to Dawn's hard work and generosity in the community.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Tony, and newborn daughter Toni Charlize.

Dawn was one of my BF's close friends from college. I have been heartbroken by this story since she slipped into the coma. I never met her personally but know her friends thought very highly of her. I didn't even know she was a soror.

:(

My prayers are with this family. Having recently given birth, all I could say was "Oh no". I can't imagine what the husband feels...
