Be nice to telemarketers.......
http://www.thekansascitychannel.com/...71/detail.html
This is so completely true. It's scary. But having worked as a telemarketer and as a CSR for Bank of America I know it is very true. If I was crazy I could fuck up your bank account. That's why I think people need to be a little nicer considering the information that CSR's/telemarketers have. Besides it's not like you have to go through a screening process to work there or anything. |
That's totally creepy!!!!! I usually say "thank you but I'm not interested" and hang up....damn, I'm going to be a little nicer now!
|
I've never understood why people are so mean to telemarketers. Sure, they're annoying, but they're just doing their job.

Why do people hate Nazis so much? They're mean, but they're just doing their job...
Yes, that's pretty strong. But you get my point. |
Haha.
I agree -- they're just doing their job, but it's an annoying job. I don't see the point of yelling at them, though. If you don't want to talk to them, just hang up. |

This argument can be pertinent when telemarketers start killing mass amounts of people, which I don't see happening in the foreseeable future. I didn't say I loved telemarketers, and I get annoyed by them too. But some people are so rude to them it turns my stomach. Just say "No thank you." It isn't that difficult to be decently polite. |
Sure, they're just doing their job. But when I have to say "No thanks, I'm not interested" more than once, that's when I start getting annoyed.
More reasons I hate telemarketers: 1 - I rent an apartment. I do NOT need a new roof! 2 - If I wanted to switch to your long-distance service, I would call you and do it myself. You calling me first is NOT going to make it more likely that I will purchase your service. In fact, I cancelled your service b/c of poor customer service. I see that hasn't changed. 3 - Pronounce my name right from the beginning, and maybe I won't snap at you after I have to say "No thank you" for the fifteenth time. 4 - Why must they always call just when I sit down to eat dinner? Usually that's the first moment of peace I've had after I've worked all day, stopped at the grocery store, completed various other errands, and slaved over the stove. As I'm putting that first bite into my mouth, I don't appreciate having to put down my fork to get up to answer the phone and be solicited. 5 - I get really irritated when you call me at 3 am by accident and your computer system beeps at me. 6 - You are soliciting me. Why do you have the attitude that I owe you anything, let alone my money? |
Last week Comcast called me on my cell phone trying to sell me cable tv service. after saying no thank you etc etc and they still kept insisting...not that expensive, tons of channels, blah blah. i finally said, "Look, I already have DirecTv and its bootleg, so I don't pay anything a month" the telemarketer said, "oh," and hung up! hilarious!!!!

If you just hang up your number goes right back into the dialer. Ask to be put on the Do Not Call list.....you may still get calls but not as much.
Seriously telemarketing/customer service is a shitty job. Especially when you're tlaking to people who have overdrawn accounts all day. Yes it is YOUR fault if you're overdrawn and no matter how unfair it seems the bank has covered its ass in the depositer's agreement so pay your fees and keep better track of your spending. Also, what entitles you to a FREE account? Bank of America is not a non-profit organization. You will be paying for something. If you don't like it go somewhere else and you will likely be paying something there too. Sorry I have so much pent up angry from that job. |
I hate companies that outsource their tellemarketing to India. 9AM on a Sunday I should not be getting a call "Mr. Taylor we see that you are two days late with your payment" Uh- hi Rajah- the check cleared on Friday. Maybe you should click refresh on your screen.

I dealt with this a few weeks ago when I wanted to cancel my Discover card. I never use it. Most credit card companies have an automated system that lets you cancel cards. I was nice at first until the customer service lady at Discover asked me several times if there's anything she could do to change my mind and then would say, "Ok, we'll give you $30 cash back. You don't like that? How about 0% APR?" I just didn't want the card. A process that should've taken a minute took 10 minutes and ended with me completely aggravated. |
i did it during graduate school...schlepping vaccuum cleaner appointments.
terrible. just terrible. do i listen to them now? not at all. a fast no thanks and a quick hang up. |
Like anything else, it's unfair to stereotype all telemarketers.
But... While I try to be very polite when I say I'm not interested, it really ticks me off when they punch off without saying thanks anyway -- or even goodbye. I'll be nice, but I expect that in return. |
Here is the deal, you deserve the call if you are late w/ a payment, it isn't a telemarketer, it is a collection agency, so pay your bills on time.
Certainly do not be rude with the collector b/c he/she has you by the b**ls. Telemarketers are a bit rude, but if you nicely say no thank you, please take me off your list, they are usually nice back to you. Don't ask a collector to be added to the do-not-call list, they will laugh at you. Also, if you are getting calls from collectors, don't act high and mighty if you sent the check last week, they wouldn't be calling if you weren't 30 days late before you sent the check. Just some cold-hard-facts. I have never been in the business, but I cannot stand it when my friends complain about collectors calling them, it IS your problem, you OWE them money. |
