I read that yesterday and was going to post it, I forgot.

I was saddened to hear that there's only 1 NPHC sorority currently active in Pitt undergrad. One of my friends during undergrad was a ZPhiB.

I also wonder if it's related to this:

Isn't Alpha Kappa Alpha at Pitt anymore? They were the only NPHC who came to Panhel meetings, and their rep was a riot!!

I've met a lot of NPHC greeks from Pitt. Glad to see they are trying to change things on campus. And I think I know the AKA you are talking about. I've met her at several conferences.

Someone on GC (sometime, somewhere) mentioned NPHC "calls". Until I read that I never knew what those sounds were in the Schenley Quad. My friends and I couldn't figure out who was doing it, and why.

The call that I remember was rather like "ooo-ooo.... ooot!". Wonder if anyone still does that.

Eddited too korrect spelling. :)

Probably the Deltas, who usually spell it "ooo-oop" but it sounds like what you typed. :)

I'm sad that AKA is no longer active. I knew several when I was at Pitt and I remember them being awesome young ladies.

In one of my Poli Sci classes, there were three AKAs and two DZs in addition to myself and we always sat together in one corner. The professor called us the Pink Posse because on letter days you'd look back at that corner and it was a sea of pink. :)

AKA just re-organized during my Sophmore year (2002?). They had perviously folded, but given the invigored nature of the AKA alumni in the area, that wasn't meant to last for long! They reorganized the right way, by enlisting in 10 already active women who were highly involved on campus life already: In Student Government Board, the Black Action Society, Focus, Pathfinders and a bunch of other organizations.

I haven't really heard anything from them in a while, but I'm sure that they are still around doing great things.. Im under the impression that although many of the orgnizations are not recognized by the University, they are still active with their nationals.. correct me if Im wrong

While I had been at Pitt, I was friends with a few female members of the leadership team for BAS. All of them had seperately looked into the NPHC sororities and were turned off. Most of their reasons for not joining or depledging were related to the size and attitude of the sororities - all three women seperately described the GLOs as cliqueish. I thought it was a little weird that they all used that same word.
